We picked up our new Bengal boy Sushi on Saturday, and within a few hours he'd used his litter tray to pee and later to poop. We were thrilled.

Since then though, he's been pooping on the bed each time (he's confined to the bedroom for a few days).

Other than this issue, he's settled in well, he's playful, really curious, and keeps trying to escape out of the room to look round our home.

Does anyone know why he'd have gone from using a litter tray to not using it, so quickly?

UPDATE: Placed some aluminum foil on the bed and it's gone back to the litter tray. Phew!

I'm not sure the aluminium foil will work forever but good news it is stopping him for now. The bed must be more attractive for him for some reason. Are you using the same litter as the breeder? it is always best to stick to the same as the breeder and then gradually change it if you prefer. Is the litter tray being kept clean - I tend to clean ours out at least three times a day to avoid any excuses for them to go elsewhere!

You should be using the same type of box and the same type of litter that the breeder used! In fact, an extra litter box is always handy. Make sure he can easily get into the litter box to do his thing. The aluminum foil may keep him away from your bed, but not forever and he can always find another spot to go. Remember that the little one has had a complete change in environment. There are new smells, new people. There is an adjustment period. Hang in there. He'll get into a routine.

If you are cleaning it after he uses it every time, Try leaving a poo in there so the scent of him is super strong. Cats go where they can smell they have went before and scented litter plus a clean, new box can be confusing to them. I would also get an enzyme cleaner for whatever blankets he went on on the bed.

My Raiden hesitates on using the litter box if there is anything in there. I literally follow him when he heads in that direction so I can clean it after him. A lot of cats are that way. Kittens, on the other hand, need that training to know where the box is to be able to use it.
