My wife and I currently have a male bengal and a male tabby/bengal mix, they are both two years old. We currently life in a one bedroom condo but just bought a 3 bedroom town house. We are wondering if we should add a third bengal.

Ralph our dominate bengal can, at times be a little to rough when playing with the other tabby/bengal mix. I have read that adding a third cat or beta cat can be very good for the hierarchy of the pride as the alpha cat now has two outlets to interact with.

What are your thoughts? Please share from your own experience.

If you are going to add another cat you need to be able to keep them seperated and take introductions at their pace. You also have to be prepared for them to alternately love and hate each other and you until they are truly comfortable around each other. You also want to make sure you have and are adding curious, open, happy cats. If there is any stress to begin with it will be magnified times 100 with a new addition.

My last addition, my Bengal, was about two years ago. The other five were adults too. The Bengal was not out of her safe room unsupervised for about two months. I know that sounds extreme, and she did have some health issues we dealth with, but they all get along fine and I don't any behavioral issues with any of them.

In short, time, patience, and a plan B, should the cat poo hit the fan for longer than you can take!

Since you are moving into a larger home, make sure it's catified! Each cat needs its own territory! Lots of tall cat trees, more litter boxes. I think it's wonderful you want to provide a home for another cat, however, three may just be a crowd. Many times, a new intruder will cause behavioral problems in the other cats. Although, since you are creating a totally new environment for the two cats, this might be the BEST time to add a third cat. Just know that all the cats will be experiencing the same thing ... new smells, new floor plan, new territories, etc. Moving can be quite stressful on the pets. They don't quite understand what is happening. Good luck. You may have your hands full for a while trying to get them settled in.
