Yuki went to the vet today for his vaccinations & said he eats quite a lot!

He is 4mths & weighs 2.5kg….

He eats 3/8 cup Hills science Diet dry & about 50g raw meat/fish per day. He eats the lot.

He in no means looks overweight at all & we all know how active these cats are….I'm surprised the vet said that.

What do you all think?

Posting pictures from above and from the side will help to determine body shape and fitness. There are pictures on the internet that guide judging body fitness in felines.

Sometimes cats are muscular and heavy, and sometimes they are overweight and heavy - there is a difference that shows on body shape. Since he is only 4 months, I'm sure he is probably not overweight. Growing kittens require a lot of nutrients and calories.

Yuki is still a baby and needs to eat a lot - 3 or 4 meals a day - just to get the nutrients he needs to grow.
I imagine from your vets comment that they haven;t dealt with many Bengals?
It sounds a perfectly acceptable weight to age ratio to me, and you should never put a kitten on a diet - When he's 18 months and about fully-grown, THEN you can reduce food to lose weight if necessary, but not before if you want a healthy boy!

As an adult, you would be looking at a body shape something like the picture below....

jodonut99- yes I agree…. I know she hasn't dealt with many bengals as when we first took him to her for a health check she said he 'looked' like a bengal! She has friends that have one but I guess because they aren't a 'regular' breed not a lot of vets have had a lot of experience???

Well, eating a lot and being overweight are not the same thing. What exactly did your vet tell you? What instructions were you given?

Mine eats different quantities each day. He is just over 14 pounds and 6 years old.

I feed mine 185g wet per day and keep dry in his bowl all the time for when he gets hungry, I'd say he eats about the same in dry


He's definitely not fat :)
