So I recently put down my 13-year bengal. He was a foster orphaned I had raised from two weeks. I had never had or even heard of Bengals before. He was a handful but I LOVED him!! He was very hyper, smart, social & talkative! He was special needs, had a nervous system disorder which required a liquid diet for 8-years. I took him every where with me to keep up on his health needs. I was/am devastated over his loss so decided to get another Bengal. I have young kids and wanted them to grow up with one. I love house cats but could never go back after my kitty. I spent a lot! Bought from a great breeder who clearly loved her cats. They are registered kittens. But the kitten is just not quite what I expected. He is 13-weeks and is doing wonderful adjusting. He even let me one-year old cuddle with him today & seems to love my 5-yr old. He however isn't hyper. He is a very mellow kitty who is a lap kitty. He wants to snuggle every second. He is playful but not hyper. My last kitty was zoom for hours just going crazy. He'd run into thr wall & just keep going. He didn't seem to slow down any until 3-4 & even at 13 was very active. I know each kitty will be different but is it typical to have a not at all hyper bengal? I've always heard they can be sweet but are not the best lap cats since they don't like to sit still. My kitty was opening doors at this age & doing all kinds of things. I'm sure this kitty is smart & I've only had him a week plus he is young. He is very healthy & does seem to be adjusting. I like him but right now I can't tell him apart from the average house cat (besides his very beautiful markings!!!). He fits in very well with my kids & I'm happy I got him but i keep thinking I spent a TON on him & wanted the bengal for certain features - hyperness & intelligence but all he does is snuggle & play a little. I think I'll get more attached to him as time passed & love seeing my kids with him but was wondering if anyone has any experience with a mellow bengal?

Yes he has a unused bathroom that he can go to that is quiet & just his. I'm home almost all day minus short store trips & such so he is offered attention basically 24/7 if he wants though I have rules for the kids so they don't over do it such as if he is the kitty condo let him be. Kind of a safe go to spot, don't touch if he is sleeping ect but in general he wants to be held or snuggled which he gets.

I've had him about a week. He is exteremly healthy & given plenty of attention. He is such a sweet thing! Loves just laying in my lap purring. I do play with him very often thought the day as do the children. He chases after his toys & such & seems happy it's just not any oh the crazy zooming I'm used to with my last one but I also hand raised my last one so this bringing home one at 12 weeks is new to me. Maybe it's all a mix of needing to adjust & just being more on the mellow side.

I am so sorry on the loss of your older bengal. I'm sure you know your children;s personalities are different. In the same realm, no two cats are alike. There is an adjustment period when a kitten is separated from mom and siblings and brought into a new home. I think you're expecting too much from this little one. His personality is still developing. If he loves to cuddle and be on your lap, credit the breeder! Most bengals are not lap cats. Personally, I'd love a less hyper bengal than the one that I have who just turned 8 years old.

You simply have to give the kitty more time. He may never become the zooming hyperactive kitty that your last one was. Accept him for who he is and who he becomes. It sounds like he gets along great with your children -- and that's probably the most important thing. Congratulations!

I agree with you guys but was just curious. He is adjusting well & each day is becoming increasingly more comfortable. I just wasn't sure if it is common to just have a mellow Bengal (aside from the adjustment time & such). Before my special needs Bengal I fostered kittens through the shelter. Mostly orphans. I know eat kitty will have a different personality and I've brought home some very out going 8-12 week old. This kitty is be far the most well behaved & cuddly. I took in my last foster 13 years ago so it's been a while. All my cats were shelter animals & not the best back round. This is my first actual pure breed that I bought. Not used to it. I do think he is awesome & watching my kids with him is great. Just still morning my kitty I lost :(
