Hi there.

As some of you know Dexter has TF.

I was talking to the Vet over the telephone last week and she told me that in a tiny percentage of cats TF can cause FIP.

It's now playing on my mind and I just wondered if anyone could confirm this is true or not?

No. Impossible!

Only likely scenario is that the cat in question also has corona virus.... Something, which nobody yet knows, makes corona virus mutate into FIP.

It is thought there may be a genetic component to who mutates and who doesn't.
It is also thought that stress can initiate mutation.

But TF alone cannot cause FIP! Quite frankly I am stunned a vet would suggest this! A vet that won't treat TF appropriately! I would never use them again!

Corona virus is very different from Giardia..

It is worth noting, TF cannot be found in a blood sample. Corona levels can... BUT most cats will have been exposed to corona at some point so even if he comes back positive it doesn't necessarily mean he'll get FIP. Vast majority don't!


Was the jelly like stuff red or a different colour? Red jelly like stuff can be a sign of intersuseption which is a bowel issue... That said, red jelly isn't necessrily this as it could just be a bit blood stained to make it like that.

Actually, when you think of it why say that anyway.

To say something that quite rarely happens isn't good practice in my opinion it would just cause unnecessary worry which it has.

In an otherwise well cat, I would not worry too much about corona virus...

Clear jelly like stuff is probably mucousy so due to irritation....

I would be annoyed with the vet!
