I miss my baby...

My little bengal Finn passed away yesterday at 5 AM and I do not know how to cope with it. My other kitties (not bengals) are snuggling with me and my dog is keeping me company but I am just beside myself. Every little memory makes me cry. He was so crazy and loving and it all happened so fast and out of nowhere. He was only 10 months. I don't understand. He was throwing up, we took him to the vet, got him home and by the early morning he was worsening. We got dressed to go to the ER vet and by the time we got back down he was gone :cry:

has anyone dealt with this before and how did you get through it?

That is just horrible. I have not dealt with that before with a kitten that age, but so very sad. Almost sounds like a poisoning - what did the vet say? Sometimes if course there is just no way to know what happened. All you can do is know that you gave him a happy home.

The vet said she doesn't think it was anything like a blockage or poison. He never went outside. We didn't keep plants or anything in house that would even cause concern. I've been wracking my brain to see what could have happened. The vet said that after she sent us home she did not expect this outcome and was crying just like us. I don't understand and I've been searching for answers. I feel like I failed him and I wish I could turn back time. When we got back downstairs we sat there for forever trying to get him back we couldn't accept he was gone.

Yeah Brian... I actually heard that there are support groups too. I may have to look into that once I don't burst into tears at mentioning his name. We have his paw print and we are waiting for his ashes back. I think today was worse too. We visited my Moms house and she printed is a picture of him as a little kitten with his favorite toy, the toy he was with just a day ago and he left to get cremated with. I know rationally that it wasn't my fault, but that little heart in my chest wants me to feel otherwise. I guess it just doesn't get easier without time. :[

That is so sad, I am very sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what you are going through, but please dont feel guilty. You did everything you could! You took him to the vet and cared for him, there is nothing more you could have done.

Do you know anything about the place you got the cat from? I have heard that some of the cats have a congenital heart defect (something they are born with) that can cause illness or sudden death. Inbreeding too could have caused something (which all are certainly not your fault). Did you get him from a breeder? if so certainly contact them.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I totally understand your grief. It will get better with time, I promise. It's especially hard when they are so young and its totally unexpected. You gave him the best care -- and the best treatment. No one could help the outcome of this. We all expect our babies to live for decades -- some just don't. You have all the great memories in his 10 short months. I'm sure the rest of your "family" feels the loss as well. You did all you could for him, but a higher power needed him more. You have my deepest sympathy.

Thanks everyone! Hugs! It is awful and the other kitties feel it too. But I guess I have to give them all my love because I know they are hurting too and just understand it was Finns time. I actually went to work today, and in a weird way it helped. Getting out of the house and having my coworkers talk me through it actually helped a lot. And all of your wonderful replies made me feel so much better. I guess time will have to help me heal and I will understand that Finn was only supposed to be here for a short time to love me. As hard as it is, I have to let him go and remember all the good memories. :[ thanks guys!

Such a sad time for you and such distressing circumstances. My thoughts are with you and at this time you must take comfort in your other furry friends. You will never forget your precious Finn but the ache in your heart will lessen over time. At least you know that on this forum, almost everybody will know the pain of losing a loved cat and totally understand what you are going through. Keep smiling and always carry tissues as it will hit you at the most ridiculous times. Sending you a big hug. xxxx
