My 1 year old bengal just started to have an area on his back where he seems to have started to lose his spots? Has anyone seen this before?

It is hard to tell what is happening in the photo. If he's losing fur down to his skin, you should take him to the vet.

Absolutely take your kitty to the vet to be checked out. It's normal for bengals to shed a little, but they should not have bald spots on their pelt. It can be as simple as a deficiency in the diet or perhaps a fungus.

It could also be stress, has anything changed at home? My boy, Jasper, did the same thing and I had every test possible ran. It ended up simply being stress. He eventually got to where his whole side was completely bald, I suggest getting a skin scraping and blood work done to make sure things are normal. If everything comes back ok it could be diet or stress. You will have to play detective to find out what is causing him to over groom.

It's interesting, I noticed it at the vets this past Monday for his 1 year jabs. The vet asked about it, and I said I hadn't seen it before his apt. She said to watch it, so I will set up an apt next week.
I haven't noticed him over grooming either. Nothing new going on, but I have noticed him being scared a little more, kind of more jumpy. Like if I am walking and come around a corner fast, he seems more jumpy.

Honestly it looks exactly how Jasper started out. He would mostly over groom at night when no one was watching him. On a few occasions I saw him doing it and of course I stopped him. It could be something outside that is making him nervous. A new cat in the neighborhood or maybe another animal. In my case it was my kids causing it. If it is stress (it may be something else) it's really hard to figure out what it is and trying to correct it. Do you use a topical flea preventative?

This is a picture that was sent from his new home. This is about a month of growth. His side was completely bald when he was here.

No, I don't use flea control because he is strictly indoor. But my vet on Monday, did use a few comb to check and didn't see anything.
We did have a room built onto our deck, now that I think about it... The construction started in May, and finished in August. It did take a long time to be complete, maybe that stressed him out? You really brought up some interesting thoughts. I will be home all day tomorrow, so I will really pay attention to see if he is grooming himself.
Your picture, looks just like the area I am questioning.

When we first started with Jasper out vet suggested stop using the topical flea treatment we were using and to give him a bath in an oatmeal based cat shampoo, they gave us a sample, to rinse any irritants off of him. That didn't work so the next thing was a skin scraping, which came back negative. Then we had to put him back on a 100% raw diet to eliminate allergies to food. Of course they offered a RX diet but he loves raw so we went with that. We then did blood work to see if anything was abnormal and then a urine test. We went through so many things to eliminate until both vets in the office said it was stress. It could be anything triggering it really. If the construction is done, is he allowed in the new room. Is it the new room that allows him access to see/smell cats he hasn't been able to before. You really have to get in there and try to see on his level. I hope you find out what it is and can stop it before it gets worse and turns into a habit.

Yes he is doing really well. I actually talked to his new Dad last night and he told me he is the perfect cat. He sleeps with them every night, hasn't had 1 accident since he has been there. He sent me that picture of him asleep on his new Mom's lap so I could see how much his fur has grown back. I feel really good about my decision on his new family. They are really good people and they spoil him :) he text me last night to get my address so he could send me a Christmas card. Jasper is the star of their holiday card this year

My last cat had neurotic alopecia when I adopted her as an adult. I didn't know what her prior situation was, but she over groomed the hair off between her legs and lower abdomen. I suspect it was her way of soothing herself. I made sure she had lots of love and attention from me. She was the only pet in my quiet home and after a couple of months her hair started to grow back. Soon afterwards it looked totally normal. She was a very sensitive cat and always wanted to be the only pet.
