non silver lines

hello just a quick question. When i was searching for a breeder to get a kitten from i noticed a lot of breeders sayin "bred from non silver lines" why is there a need to state this? Are they not very sought after or something?

Silvers are lighter in color. Some owners want the true bengal coloring. That's the breeder's way of letting you know there is no silver traits in their litters -- they aren't using silvers in their breeding program. Raiden has Boris of Hi-Dynasty who is a silver spotted bengal in his pedigree. Since it was at the beginning of his pedigree, he probably has no silver in him whatsoever. Google "silver bengals" and you can see how light (silver) some of them are.

i have seen a lot of silver bengals and i think they are beautiful. I just dont understand why it is announced like it is a bad thing, like it is some sort of deficiency

I think it's because silvers are kind of like marbles. They aren't the most popular of bengal colors like rosetted is more in demand than marble. Silvers can be beautiful but IMHO some are not so much. Some are highly tarnished which makes them look yellow or dirty. A lot of breeders say that silver lines are mostly in breed due to the lack of different gene pools and therefore have more health problems.

ah ok that seems feasible thank you for the clarity i think it is a shame that people seem to look down on the different types because you can get some real beautiful silvers and some very awesome marbles too.

They are saying that because there is a fallacy that silver Bengals are more likely to get HCM - a genetic heart disease common in Bengals.
Some breeders who know no better, think by stating Non-silver, they can get away with not testing their cats for HCM.

It is an idiotic con trick, by ignorant breeders.
Non-silver Bengals are just as likely to get HCM as their Silver counterparts.
HCM is in the breed unfortunately and the risk is not related to colour, it is a hereditary disease and some lines are full of it, silver or non-silver.
My HCM cat is from totally non-silver lines, as are so many on the HCM list.

I am in love with marbles as well. I am not putting down marbles or silvers. Other people on the other hand breed specifically for spotted and avoid marbles all together. Some breeders will price their marbles considerably less than their spotted. It's just how it is. I honestly think Jasper is one of the most beautiful cats I have seen, even more beautiful than BB and he is a marble. A well breed marble is hard to come by but they are the most amazing cats I have ever laid eyes on.
