I just thought I'd let you all know that I've just brought a GPS tracker for my cat Rosie. it's a GPawS tracker and it's currently charging in anticipation of letting her out this evening. I can't tell you how excited I am to find out where she goes and what she gets up to. I'll provide an update a bit later on to tell you how well it works and if it is worth the £49.99 it cost me.

I've tested the collar on her already and she seems fine with it considering she has never worn a collar before.

The GPawS tracker is really good. Using the web interface you can see all the journeys your cat takes and it seems to be pretty accurate, for the purpose of testing I went out for a walk to calibrate the device and let it find the nearest satellite (this generally takes about 2-4 minutes).

The device acts like a USB storage drive and all you need to do when you cat comes home is to connect it with the cable that they supplied and upload it to the website. Its also really useful that the file the device creates is in GPX format, this is an industry standard for logging GPS coordinates which means you don't just have to use the website to view your cats adventures. You should also be able to download software which means that you don't have to upload the results to the web if you are concerned about privacy.

There as some good features on the website and you can make your cats adventures visible to the public. This means that if other people in the same area as you have a GPS tracker and have uploaded their results for public view, you can see how the cats interact and share territory during different times of the day.

If you are looking for a present for someone who loves technology and cats, you can't go wrong with this. (I'm not employed by these people this is my personal experience of the product.
