As it's a hot day here in Melbourne, Australia tonight I decided to go for a walk through the park near my house. As im walking down this alley connected to the park I saw a cat lying down on the pavement... as I walked near her she started rolling around on the ground in a playful manner so I started to pat her. Initially I thought someone around the area owned her but I decided to look at the tag anyways just incase. Turns out this cat has a council tag on her, a bright orange one.

Now im not familiar with tags and stuff but it seems to me like this cat might be a stray? Caught by the council and tagged. If im wrong on this let me know. Especially anyone living in Australia.

Im asking for advice on what to do as I dont want to let a stray bengal (if it is one) go like this as it's a nice cat and who knows what might happen to her.

Also the cat followed me back through the park to my house so ive taken her and left her in the living room.

If I find out shes not a stray then I will try contact the owner/s or just leave her where I found her, that way she will most likely find her way home (somewhere close I presume).

she's not a bengal, just a tabby moggy.

it may be worth a phonecall to your council to ask them to explain the tag, or maybe your vet would know? also may be worth taking her to the vets to be scanned just in case she is chipped.

bundles of bengals: I thought she might have been a bengal cross or something because she has a whitish tummy with spots on it and a very nice coat, I guess I must be wrong on that one though. It's a little too late to call the council tonight as its almost 1am, I will most definately call in the morning though.

Any tips on what I can do to calm her down a little until the morning, she seems abit edgy and seems like she wants to go outside.

Edit: Also the tag is from a suburb at least 30km's away from where I live.

Don't have tips for calming her (did you feed her ? ), sorry...

As for the tummy, all tabbies' tummies are clearer than the rest of the body with black spots (though not going all the way "down" to between back legs as Bengals have) .

What Bengals have (or would like to have...) is a really white tummy with dark spots, as the ALC does have...

Her pattern is a blotched and not marbled (more horizontal) so no Bengal here definitly .
