I wondered why I was always so short on money last year when that never really happened before. Well, I've done my year-end bookkeeping and I wonder no more. I've been waiting for 15 years to be able to have pets and I apparently went way overboard with spoiling my kitties once that time came.
I'm not talking about purchase price because they all were "free" rescues but vet costs, cat furniture, litter, food, toys etc. I spent $850 for vet visits and medication alone and another $1000 for cat furniture and such.
Even without the vet costs and one-time furniture purchases, I've apparently spent on average $120 per month per cat on food, litter and toys. With four cats right now that's more than I spend on my groceries and toiletries. Am I nuts? I kinda feel sorry for whoever is going to adopt my fosters because the longer they stay here, the more they will become spoiled rotten...
