Hi there, my little girl, Kia went for her pre-op (spaying) check this morning, and everything is fine, she is totally healthy and the vets taken a shine to her, they called her a barrel because she will be a huge cat when she grows up! Anyway, the vet said that there was two ways of doing the spaying, one is through the side and one is through her belly! They said the belly option is for pedigree cats, so they don't disturb the fur at the side. It will take longer to heal and could be more painful for the cat! So I don't want that option. The side option is much more easier, but they said they have to shave a large area on her fur and it might not grow back the same pattern. I want her to be healthy as quick as possible. But I was wondering if anyone has had a different fur patterns and marking when it grew back in? Thank you!

That's a new one on me!! All of our ex-Mummy/pet Bengals have had the op on the side, and the fur has grown back perfectly with the pattern unchanged!

Mine were spayed before Christmas with the traditional side cut and the fur is growing back now (Daisy's is growing much faster than Dolly or Lily's). As far as I can tell, the pattern looks fine - it's quite fun watching the spots develop again!

i worked at a vet's many years ago & some pedigree owners did opt for the "mid-line" spay for this reason. but in my experience i've never seen a cat who's fur grew back differently from a side spay. most cats are side spayed...mine all have been.

i think they just like to warn you it's a possibility but i personally don't think it's neccessary.

Through personal experience although it wasn't with a bengal, I got my female siamese/balinese cross spayed a few months back and she was done on her side. When the fur came back in it came in the dark colour of her points and she was left with a dark brown square of fur on her side. The vet informed me that it would return to normal after her next cast which it is starting to now.
