I?m not convinced that it?s just ?Bengal? breeders who try to place their cats in indoor homes, I?m pretty sure most breeders would prefer this; However, the Bengal?s do have a number of features that justify that decision:
1. The breed is very inquisitive in nature, this can be dangerous as they will find their way into parked cars, delivery vans, other peoples houses, garden sheds and a whole load of trouble! <_<
2. Their look is very distinctive and people who have never seen a Bengal before always comment on their wild appearance, this is thought to be one of the reasons Bengal cats are stolen.
3. I?m not sure on this one, but I?ve been told that their territory is much larger than that of other cat breeds and that they can and will roam for miles before returning home.
HOWEVER this aside, if you are getting a breeding queen it really isn?t a good idea to let her out what ever breed of cat you get. Once she comes into heat she will do ANYTHING to breed, she will breed as often as she can whilst she is in heat, which is why a queen can have kittens from different fathers in the one litter.
There?s no guarantee that you?ll be able to tell when she?s in heat. Even if you could it would be very difficult to keep her in doors whilst you have an open cat flap for the other cats. Even if you did catch her as she started calling and mated her with a Bengal stud, she could still go out afterwards and mate with an Alley cat? giving you a mixture of pure and cross breed kittens in the litter.
I?m not saying it?s impossible, but it will be VERY difficult to control unwanted litters/matings and I don?t know of any breeder who lets their queen outdoors without supervision.
Hope this helps you make your decision!
