Being an economist, I love sharoncville's usage of supply and demand. In re your kitten, $500 is a great deal. To be honest, I would like to see the price stay in the typical range of, on average, $1000 because this creates the incentives needed for the breeders (of which many fine breeders are on this forum; I am not a breeder) to keep reproducing high quality, healthy cats. Believe me, even at $1000 per kitten, breeders aren’t making much, if anything, in terms of profits because there are real expenses in preserving the health and reputation of the breed. With that being said, when prices for these animals start to nose dive it could be a sign that there are too many "bedroom" Bengal breeders and that would be bad for all of us who love these cats.
On another note, congratulations on the new kitten and make sure your seat belt is on because this breed of cat will take you for a ride (in a good way, of course)!
