One thing you need to take into consideration. INDOOR cats do NOT have the same "wear" on their nails that an outdoor cat does. Even with MULTIPLE scratching posts, it's difficult for
them to keep them at a reasonable length.
I've known of people who had cats who's claws curved and grew into the PADS... which can be VERY painful for the cat... and ultimately cause MUCH more problems for the CAT, than just "catching on the carpets"
I don't clip my cats claws VERY short... just "nip" the tips off (and YES with regular fingernail clippers) to keep them from "snagging" on everything.
When trained to have them "clipped" when YOUNG... they tolerate it, pretty well... and it does save some on furniture, and YOUR skin... while not really HARMING the cat. Just be careful to NOT nick the "quick" -- just like your own nails, if clipped to short, can hurt, too.
Just the opinion of an OLD lady with 9 cats living in her house.
