Are Bengal cats legal to have in the state of NY?

And what are some differences between a Bengal and a Savannah?

Welcome to the forum.

I believe we've had the discussion about whether Bengals are legal in NY before on here and I can't remember what the conclusion was..... Common sense says there's no reason why they shouldn't be (but then common sense doesn't always prevail :wink:

)

The difference between a Bengal and a Savannah is in their heritage at a basic level - a Bengal is derived from an Asian Leopard Cat, whereas a Savannah is from an African Serval.

Yes, Bengals ARE legal in NY- I have 2 of them!
Bengals, in my opinion, are much prettier then Savannahs. Bengals have smaller ears, and they are a smaller then Savannah's as well.

Victoria, the breeder, aka Vicki is very nice. Her cattery is about a 2 hour drive from NYC....I left the city on a clear Sunday and made it there in about an hr and a half since there was no traffic. When I bought my boys, they were $800, since I bought two, she gave me a small price break. I would recommend 2 if you will be leaving him/her alone at work all day so he/she has company. Mine jump VERY high, but it hasn't caused a problem as of yet. I never heard that Savannah's were illegal in NY.
