this is my first post so go easy on me! I am owner to two beautiful bengal boy kittens they are now just under 5 months old. I was advised by the breeder tp feed them a pouch each 3times a day (so 6 in total) and keep biscuts topped up regular which is about twice a day. They seem really happy and are very very active, but i am worried i am over feeding them, mainly cos people are so shocked at how much they actually eat!! They will be neutered at six months and will ask my vet for advice on this, but am concerned he will not know the breed so well. Any thoughts on this??

I know mine gets through at least 3 pouches a day, plus dried food. On top of this he eats the food given to the other cat.
On top of this when he's outside he has a healthy appetite for daisies and anything that moves!!

Its comforting to know! How old is your cat?

My cats are adults (or almost), so I'm not sure about kitten feeding, but I've read that kittens should be fed twice as much as adults and spread out over more feeding sessions as they are much more active and need more nutrients to grow. E.g. if adults get wet food twice a day, kittens should get the same amount four times a day, removing the leftovers they don't eat after some time. Basically, they should be able to eat as much as they want/need. However, I'm no expert on kitten feeding and I don't know when you have to start restricting them from overeating.

I will keep my eye on them to make sure they are not going over weight and i always remember that the breeder i got them from had their brother who was a year old and he weighed a stone but was still very active and glowing and not over weight so i should trust them but their my babies ha!!

I agree with tameeria, kittens need food for growing muscle and bone so you shouldn't scrimp on their food.

They are also usually very active and will burn off a lot of calories by running around, jumping and climbing. Unless they are obviously overweight or being regularly sick with over-eating then I would feed to capacity. Some will need more than others depending on sex, genetics and exertion. Titrate the food to how much they can eat.

Make sure they are wormed regularly as this can lead to them eating a huge amount and not putting on weight.
