Please be aware that Applaws is
not a complete food!
I have researched a great deal on the raw diet over the past 18 months....the pros and the cons etc etc so when I had the Applaws/MPM sales rep on the phone just a few weeks ago I asked her whether or not they add any suppliements to the food yet as it doesn't make it clear in the ingredients, I also told her that I had also raised this matter some time ago with the owner of the company (which I won't name) who told me it was ok to feed as a complete cat food, even though I expressly told him he was completely wrong on this and explained the dangers involved in feeding a cat on such things as a relatively pure tuna/chicken diet.....what he said was and still is utter rubbish!
However the rep on the phone did tell me they were now aware and the label has been changed accordingly to apparently say it's
not a complete food.
We bought some at the weekend to give our stud at a show for a special treat only to discover the label had been only slightly changed, It just listed the ingredients as normal but without the comment about it being a complete cat food.....no mention anywhere of it not being a complete food as the rep previously told me it would have, but it does now list the ash, fat, carb and moisture content.....so maybe they have added/changed something but are being very quite about it.
very misleading!
And also just for the record, it went straight through him in a matter of minutes so he won't be dining on that again.....and we won't be buying any more for the girls thats for sure.
In my opinion you would be no better off than giving your cat normal human grade tuna in a can (spring water, not brine or oil), the fact the they put cheese, rice, pumpkin or seaweed in the applaws means nothing towards it being a complete food....Oh i forgot the all important 6% or so of cooking water!
By the way I have got to say just in case some people reading this don't realise the dangers. **don't feed your cat on a complete diet of human grade Tuna**.....its only ok as a once in a while treat, a cat fed on tuna alone will develop many problems after long term use.... i'e liver, bladder problems and also blindness in extreme cases.
Read a little into the raw diet and you'll discover lots about the dietery needs of your feline, I'm not saying go for the raw diet but it will open your eyes to some of the food claims that are out there....especially with all the recent recalls etc, etc.
I don't mean this to sound harsh against a particular cat food in any way, shape or form....just my opinion on it in general!
