With GREAT reluctance I type this message. I have been looking at all the rehoming posts for a while and keep talking myself out of it but have to face facts and have to do the right thing by my two babies.

So I am asking for forever homes for 1 male bengal 6yrs and 1 female bengal 6 yrs. (Gerrard and Dahla). The reason is simply because I cannot give them the freedom and space they both desire and cannot go on feeling guilty everyday by keeping them cooped up in the tiny flat that I have. They both deserve to have the freedom to explore and be happy cats.

To explain further...my partner bought me these two angels 6 yrs ago, we have since split and without going into too much detail. I lost the house have had to start again. I was determined to keep my two bengals no matter what as they are my babies but the small flat and reduced playing space is affecting them. My boy now has aggression issues with other cats and now I cannot take him out. (they are both trained to be on leads) They have started to go for each other and are starting to pee everywhere in the flat. If I had the money I would move to bigger a premises and give them back their secure garden in a heart beat but unfortunately short of winning the lottery this is't going to happen. I can't bear to see them unhappy and am particularly worried that they will get worse.

If any one can give advice or help in rehoming my two I would be most grateful. We live in Winchester, Hampshire UK.

I am so sorry to hear you are faced with these issues. It does highlight how cats can 'act out' when circumstances change

Firstly, photos always help. People do love to see pictures. Are they brown/snow/silver, spotted/marble etc. Also, are they registered and do you have their papers? If they are registered, have you considered letting the breeder know as they may be able to help you rehome them?? Do they have to/need to go together? Is the girl fed up of the boy???

Whilst they are still with you there may be a few things you can do to help the problems.

Your boy seems to be the main culprit (typical man!). Have you had him checked out with a vet regarding the wee'ing? It more than likely is behavioral but it could possibly be a urine infection of cystitis. You may not have the room but could you place a few more litter trays around so he is never too far away. Try not to get mad at him for wee'ing as he won't understand why, don't shout, or rub his nose in it etc (you probably aren't doing it but it's worth mentioning). Try to place him on the tray every now and then and dig with a paw, don't force the issue though. Praise him when he does wee on the tray, maybe with treats. Make sure you clean urine with an enzymatic cleaner such as Urine Off and follow instructions on bottle.

He may benefit from a natural medicine called Zylkene. It can be used to help calm down stressed cats. I buy mine from VetsUk usually. He may also benefit from prescribable medication to calm him but i would try Zylkene first.


I hope this helps you a little. You may have guessed but i have a stressy Bengal who wee's on stuff!!!!!

Thank you for your kind response. In answer to some of your queries:
Gerrard and Dahla are brother and sister brown spotted, both are micro chipped, spayed/neutered.
In terms of the breeder I haven’t had much luck with her. I think she has stopped breeding; we were in dispute with her as we were never given any paperwork for the cats, only lineage cards. Even though I had seen the papers etc for the parent cats, we were promised that once the vet could prove both kittens were spayed /neutered the relevant papers would be sent on but we didn’t get anything back. Is there any other way I get the papers?

I know they come from good stock as their father had won awards and Gerrard is the spitting image of his father, only his markings are slightly smudged. Dahla has much clearer markings and again is the spitting image of her mother, apart from her mother was an arctic.

I have tried to upload pictures but the system keep crashing (this is my fourth attempt to reply your post!).

I have previously take them both the vets (much to Dahla’s disgust) to get them checked out for any urinary problems and we’ve been given the all clear. The vet recommended Feliway but I found this didn’t any have affect. I will definitely try Zylkene.

In terms of provision they both have two large litter trays, cat ceiling height cat tree (their favourite) and they both have access to the garden via my bedroom windows which opens into a conservatory size pen. But Gerrard is continually howling in the pen, he is always by the back door asking to go out which can’t happen because the garden is not secure and there a lot of cats in the vicinity. When they were younger they were trained to be on leads but I cannot take him out any more as he gets so frustrated that he cannot roam and explore by himself that he gets aggressive with me. Dahla is much more settled and I can take her out with no problem whatsoever but she also pees everywhere.

I know Gerrard sounds like a pain but actually he is a very loving cat and is always coming up for cuddles. He is very good at spotting when I’m upset and is always there offering to share his toys.
I think the lack of space and freedom is affecting them both but more so with Gerrard. So I would like to get them re homed to someone who can provide a loving home and secure space for them to roam and be the happy cats they are meant to be. I am unsure about separating them as they have never been apart.

I have decided to keep my two angels as I have not had any responses and I am worried that maybe my two are too much for another person to take on. (which may explain the lack of response). I don't want to run the risk of someone taking them and then struggling to cope. The last thing I need is for Gerrard and Dahla to passed around.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I would try the Zylkene with Gerrard, and maybe have another litter tray in or around a place he pees often. Alos use a cleaner such as Urine Off to thoroughly clean any pee spots.

Get toys such as Dabird, and spend a good amount of time each day playing with him, it doe help channel taht overactive energy!

I'm glad you have decided to keep them. You would have missed each other terribly. I'd try Zyklene on your boy. I used this to great effect when we had builders in and my two house Bengals got stressed because of the changes. If there are peeing issues get some Urine off or similar as as long as they can still smell the pee they will go back there. Their sense of smell if much better than ours. Keep us informed.
