Precisely, I think unfortunately the written word can be very much misinterpreted - especially here! Everyone on this forum has the cats best interest at heart - which is probably why these instances happen.
Im sorry the OP has chosen to leave, but its their choice. I think if truth be hold many of us feel painfully sorry for anyone who thinks they need to rehome their cat due to the time they can give, hence my initial comment 'this is a shame that your only reason for rehoming is the time you can give to your cat' - because it could be the cat is actually extremely happy - unless of course they are displaying inappropriate behaviours then of course the attention the cat is/isnt getting IS a cause for concern - I believe that was the point being made. Ie if it aint broke dont fix it, and if it is broke then yes fix it.

Anyhow...its a shame any comments have been taken incorrectly - but thats life...I wish the OP and Perdy all the best :)

Just reading through the messages in this thread, I don't see how a question of adding more information to the post would be considered offensive. As cat/bengal owners and lovers, what is the harm in asking OP to provide more information so that potential owners can make an informed decision? I think some would wonder about the fact that OP had commented '...without giving any potential owners a full redown of her history and behaviour, I just wasn't willing to put everything for all and sundr to see'. We're asking the same questions any potential owner would need to know and by posting this information on the thread helps these potential interested parties to know what they'll need to consider, ie retraining and care etc

I think in asking to provide more information so that these people don't turn away once they hear Perdy has 'behavioural issues' will mean less time wasted for the OP and allow keen members to be able to provide Perdy with a good home and get what she needs

I don't think anyone has mentioned questions being 'offensive'. Maybe I'm reading it all wrong there... :?

In the current economic climate, personal and financial issues are no doubt a huge factor in many rehoming situations, I took this as to what the OP is meaning by the 'all & sundry' comment and others made thereafter. Understandable if this genuinely is the case, I would feel just as tender under the circumstances.

Can't really add anything else to this other than I hope Perdy finds a new home soon. :)

You guys all know that I have no problem "mixing it up" in threads where we talk about behavior, or diet, or medical treatment or whatnot, and when people come in and ask for the best way to declaw their cat, or proclaim that purina cat chow is the best possible food for their cat, or talk about how they want to "trade in" their 10 year old cat for a newer model and how best should they go about doing that, I have no problem "tearing them a new one". But in threads where somebody simply is posting an ad to rehome their cat, I think we're doing a lot of harm to their attempt (and thus their cat) by posting post after post after post being critical either of the fact that they are doing the rehoming at all (like lots of prior threads) or the way that they are going about the rehoming (like this thread). If you don't like the word critical, then substitute the phrase "helpfully offering suggestions for improvement", but either way it's counter-productive imo.

I think about it from the point of view of someone coming here with an excellent home to provide such a cat. I think if they see some really long thread where the OP is being "beat up" they are just going to move on. I don't think for a moment that anyone was being malicious or mean, but I do think that we were hurting their attempt to ultimately find their cat a new home unintentionally. I wasn't even going to comment about THAT since the last thing the OP needs is yet another critical post in their homing thread, but now that they are leaving... might as well.

Honestly, I think the best possible thing for someone trying to rehome their bengal, is a thread where they show a lot of pictures, talk about the cats, and have a few people comment on how nice the cats looks or how they'd love to have one but can't etc., or wishing them well in their endevor. Maybe PM'ing the OP some ideas of some other sites or agencies or whatnot to try. At least that's what I would want if I was doing the rehoming, and I suspect that's what everyone else would want too.
