Just got out of a de-claw vs no de-claw thread on another board with someone in my area asking about vets that do the procedure. Haha, I sent them to my vet who is very anti-declaw and will hopefully give them a good lecture.

One of the posters didn't believe me that it was illegal in the UK and other countries! Ugh. Really? How hard is that to believe?

I so wish it was illegal in the States. Maybe I'll come move over to the UK with most of you guys!

People just don't understand how cruel it is, and care more about their couches than the sake of the cat

They don't want to take the time to train a cat properly or provide them with proper scratching places...

I know! People were giving him links on how the procedure is done and how cruel it is and his reply was that he did the research on it and knows how it is done.

I just don't understand how someone can read/see pictures of it and not think it's cruel!

Haha, I hope she (my vet) gives him an earful

I don't understand it, myself. If you're worried about your furniture getting clawed - do NOT get a cat. It is really that simple.

It isn't even that hard to train a cat not to scratch your furniture. I've owned many over the years, and my furniture isn't shredded at all.

Ironically, I bet these same people would never think of doing that to a dog, and a dog can cause more serious damage to floors and walls.

It's not even like triming nails is the hardest thing to do in the world. I also read about people who want to keep wild pets like bobcats in their homes so not only declaw but defang them as well

It's like they've forgotten they're dealing with animals that feel vulnerability and pain, they just want cool looking ornaments with minimum maintenance and training.
