Yes I echo that, they're your cats so you get to decide their diet.

I have a problem at the moment with Casper, he should weigh 3.8 kg but he actually weighs 4.5 kg. He doesn't overeat (despite the vet telling me she thinks he must do) its more the fact that he isn't very active. I give him maybe 2 whiskas treats per day, every other day...

I have been told to restrict his food and not free-feed him anymore but give him 3 small meals a day. Its awful because he seems hungry and unsettled but the fear of having him develop diabetes or other obesity-related conditions in later life is too strong. I couldn't cope with the guilt.

So, yes - you have every right to ask your housemates not to feed them scraps, stick to your guns!

You are right, they don't need "treats" like that. Especially if the weight is going on.

Where Bengals are concerned, food is all about quality not quantity. And a lot of human food does not fit into that quality bracket.

awesome guys, I feel a lot better. It's just hard to maintain my fight-face when I wonder if I'm obsessing about stuff that doesn't matter, but I really reckon now that this is something worth going at until he gets the message. Being outnumbered sucks! That's why I come here

I know takeaway is bad for them, who know what's in a hot-dog-from-a-can. They get given two dentabite treats a day which my housemates already give them so they can be the 'cool uncles' so all in all I AM THE BOSS OF MY CATS!

There are two issues here - the first is that your "friends" should absolutely respect your views on what your cats are fed and shouldn't go against your wishes behind your back.

The other issue is the food they're trying to give them. It's not good for cats, especially Bengals to be given lots of different foods. You have to find a way of getting your friends to stop applying human behaviour to the situation and remember that these are cats they're dealing with. They deserve the respect of being treated like cats, which means feeding them the right food for cats. Leftover human food is not a treat, it's potentially dangerous so their kindness is misplaced.

You def havent over reacted, LIke everyone is saying they are your cats and your friend should repect this. My hubbys mum use to give our dogs human biscuits and I hated it, my dogs DO NOT get human food like that, he eventually told her not to. My dogs and cats all get left over ham on a Friday night that we havent used for work, that is their only treat. Stick to your guns and tell them no human food for the cats.

Also, if they insist on feeding human food to the cats, try the humans on a cat food diet - see if they like it
