I don't know about the insurance Kim - I can understand that you might feel as if you were giving up on her if you didn't renew it but you also have to be practical. How much longer do you have on the free insurance?

You can't make decisions about what to do if you find she's been taken in by another family until it happens. So much would depend on the circumstances, the timing, the people involved etc etc. Try not to torture yourself with worrying about it.

If it helps and it's the PetPlan free insurance, they were great with my claim for Max even though it was free. They paid out without any problem. If you tell them that, sadly you have lost the cat through theft or straying, I'm sure they'll refund the purchase price.

It's not a case of giving up on Mystie, it's a case of being practical as others have said. There will come a time when you may well want another kitten, and you'll therefore need (and be entitled to) the refund to fund it.

They must have a definative period when they consider it lost, and they may well have some criteria in as much as how much you've done to actually try and find her, but no one can dispute the length of time so far, and no one can dispute the efforts you've made in trying to find her.

It is petplan she is with. I had informed them she was missing, the bloke on the phone just said that when someone phones to renew the free insurance which runs out on the 13th to take it up anyway. They have logged that she is missing. I said to him what more can I do to help find her and he said that i've done all I can in informing vets etc.

So what happens now? I see on the claim form that you have to wait 30 days from when she went missing.

Also the other thing on my mind is that if I cancel the policy and say she gets i'll and the person who has her takes her to the vets but doesn't pay to treat her and the vet recognises her by her picture and I have to pay for her treatment in which she wouldn't be insurured. Do you get what I mean? I just don't know.

Do you think I should put in a claim after the 30 days? What would people think of me if I did so soon?

Its hard to suggest what you should do. But i think you shouldnt worry about what people think of you, everyone knows you have done and still are doing all you can to find her.

Hopefully you will find her before you have to make that decision.

I also don't think anyone would think bad of you if you put in a claim after 30 days - I certainly wouldn't. Treat any payout as help towards looking for Mystie rather than any sort of "refund" for her.

Thank you for all your support. I've been promised my cat house will be completed by Xmas, although it's now getting too cold for cats to be outdoors.

You know what, I don't know how to word my posts. If I say Oscar and not cats then it looks like i've given up on Mystie and if I say cats it looks like I have both here

oh hun it most be so difficult for you...
we all know you haven't given up on her.
i can't believe you still haven't heard anything...somebody must have taken her in.
i know it's difficult to think about but you have kept in contact with the council haven't you? they keep a log of any pets they find on the road, but they only keep hold of each one for a week so it may be worth keep checking in with them. at least if anything bad had happened to her you would know.
oscar will love his enclosure, i'm sure even in the cold, & fingers crossed you get mystie back to enjoy it too xxx
