Amsterdam is also beautiful and not too expensive. Another place I love is Geneva.

Ljubijana (not sur if that's the correct spelling) in Slovenia is great and not too expensive.

ok... our shortlist now is...

prague (again, but it was so fantastic and i really felt we didnt get to see all of it last time)
Ljubliana (cheap! and soo pretty)
Krakow (mmmm polish food.... )
Amsterdam (coz id love to see the archaeology museum)
Rome (unlikely we will be able to afford but seeing it has been one of my life dreams)
or bucharest (i made some friends there when i volunteered in romania so that would be the cheapest option at all...)

How about you come upto Newcastle, catch the DFDS ferry over to Amsterdam, (over night on the ferry). Have a night or 2 in the Dam then the ferry back again. With living insight of the ferry port we have been on a few times and it's a good trip. If you go onto their web site they have breaks which include hotels in Amsterdam as well.

Sounds like a good shortlist I've only been to Amsterdam and Rome on your list but both are lovely, Rome can be expensive though (although it's not as bad as Venice!).

We always find booking flights and hotels separately is cheaper than booking on a 'package' site like lastminute. Our last two citybreaks (both for two nights) cost £120 for the two of us including flights and hotel. £20 each for cheap flight from Ryanair (inc taxes and charges) and £80 for two nights in a basic clean hotel.

We went to Pisa and Valencia and had a great time in both places.
