This actually shocked me when I saw this drawing of the difference between the modern day Persian and a normal feline skull.

OMG Elaine that is awful very similar to the drawings from that programme of the Bulldogs skull & how that has changed very dramatically. No wander these animals with pushed in faces are struggling to breathe it just makes the mind boggle it really does

I don't know if that's the same as cow hocked because I thought cow hocked meant "cagnard" or "panard" (knees going inside like in the Beauceron dog breed or outside like in the english bulldog... ) ...

But well, it means that the kneecap sometimes jump out of place (to the right or left), making the animal limp .

About 8 years ago a male pet I homed became very poorly with a dislocated knee. He underwent a lengthy operation and had to be confined to a pen for 6 weeks but he made a full recovery and is still a strapping and healthy boy today.

The Mother had been to an outside stud, and it was her third litter (all of her kittens had gone as pets), however, I decided to spay her immediately after as I didn't want to take any chances after knowing what this little guy had gone through.

The breeder of Dolly and Daisy spayed their mother after she produced Daisy because she had flat chested kitten syndrome. It was only a mild version but I guess the potential was there for future litters to be affected.

Presumably breeders etc must make a judgement as to whether a condition is being passed down the blood lines (in which case stopping breeding from affected parents is right and proper) or is a random illness/injury that has nothing to do with parentage. I get the impression that the science isn't always advanced enough to help people know which is which.
