Phew, it's a tough topic for any animal lover isn't it. I've always been a rescue advocate, but never begrudged anyone who wanted a pedigree. What I had an issue with is pet stores selling non pedigree animals at a profit etc. Naturally businesses need to make a living, but I didn't see the point in buying kittens at shopping malls when there were so many at shelters needing love.
When my stray rescue Harry (ginger DSH)who'd been with us for 9 years, died from cancer last year I went to a shelter and adopted a beautiful little ginger boy. His name was Beans and we were in love. He was only with us 5 weeks before he died from wet FIP. I was naturally distraught. My gorgeous parents called every shelter within 20 km and found a little ginger girl in an attempt to ease my pain. Solair was with us for 5 weeks before she died....from wet FIP also! What kind of hell was I being forced to endure!!
2 different vets assured me that there was zero possibility that she had picked it up from Beans, the timeline was wrong.
Really long story short, my husband basically said "No more shelter cats". He couldn't bare to see me so devastated. We'd lost 3 cats within 3 months and I was a mess.
Hence we have Max (ginger DSH rescued from a cardboard box on the side of the road) and Bryan (the pedigree Bengal I could never previously justify getting because there were too many rescues out there needing homes)
At the end of the day, we all have our stories and our reasons and others have no right to judge.
Ps: I've got a thing for ginger cats clearly
