Pearl on the banister

DSC_0301.JPGDSC_0302.JPGDSC_0303.JPGPearl will not stop jumping onto this banister and I'm terrified she will fall and hurt herself, I have tried everything including putting up railing which worked for a time now she jumps on those also which makes it even higher if she falls so I have taken them down.

What are the chances of serious injury do you think if she falls, there is carpet on the stairs.

Sometimes you just have to let things happen, Clare. Just with children -- you can tell them not to do something a million times, but if they do it anyway and get hurt, maybe they will learn! Most bengals are very agile (mine is not) and they can walk a tightrope. Pearl obviously likes it or she wouldn't be on it.

Thanks Sherry, well it did happen this morning we were in bed and heard a thud, I looked down and she was looking up at me, I called her and she ran up the stairs so luckily no harm done and I think the carpet broke her fall.

I told my mum about what's been going on and she told me to just ignore it as it's like a child attention seeking, the more I tell her off the more she does it, this seems to be true as she hasn't got on there much today.

I must be strong and persevere with it.

She has now fallen off twice but no damage, luckily it's only around 9 feet at the highest point and all carpet below, she is slowly getting the message I think and doing it less, Magic isn't quite as athletic as Pearl because of his size so he doesn't get up there.

A lady on another site I'm on wrapped sisal rope tightly all round hers so at least the cats have a better grip when they jump up there, I have a huge bundle of this rope so I think I will give it a try, it actually looked pretty good as well.

I think I worry so much because when Pearl gets the crazies she just flies round the house leaping at everything like she is possessed.

I've never had a bengal as nutty as her, I've always had males and I wonder if it's a female thing.

Hopefully, Pearl didn't think it was "fun" and wants to do it over and over again. Hopefully, it scared her a little to free fall like that. Eventually, they may learn!

I hope you are right, she is just the nuttiest cat I have ever had, I'm sure the devil gets in her at times.

That looks great, Clare, but now Pearl will be up there ALL the time. LOL. Raiden has these large round beds and I'd probably have stuck one of those at the bottom for a softer landing. Pillows night help, too. I don't think Pearl is going to learn a lesson.

As you can see Sherry Magic is actually on it now so it is double trouble now, at least they have some grip now though.

Honestly, do they realize how much we worry about them when they are high up in the air, hanging by a thread??? I'd be tempted to put a cat tree there to help them get down. You may not have room, but perhaps a creative cat tree? Thankfully, our kitchen cabinets go up to the ceiling and the one time Raiden hopped up onto the top of a shelving unit, he had a chair right underneath that he could jump down on. Thankfully, he doesn't go into that room very often.
