My Yoshi (the white guy in my sig) is deaf. He also has vision issues. He has a lazy/crossed eye and his pupils don't always dialate properly. We will be moving soon. The house we are currently in is the only home he has ever known. He has been doing ok so far with us packing and he has been better than I expected with us crating him and being in the car when our house is being shown. Does anyone have any ideas with helping his transition to a new house? With two of his senses seriously limited and him being understandably timid, I am worried about my little guy.

You obviously know that you need to limit his access around your new home for a few days. If you have other cats, they may help him out. You'll have to allow Yoshi to explore at his own pace and let him familiarize himself with the entire house at some point. Moving is stressful enough on humans. I can only imagine how it is on pets who don't really understand what is going on and they encounter new sights and smells. Yoshi should adjust fine with time. Bless you for caring for and loving him. For some reason, we humans worry more than our feline friends do.

You need to keep him in one small room at first so that he knows it well and then you can let him explore small areas at a time, if there are any dangerous areas, ie stairs then you need to make sure he is supervised closely, before letting him go there.

My plan was to wash all of their beds and hidey-cubes and stuff but I decided against it so he would be able to sniff out his stuff. He is more active in the evening and at night so that is probably when I will introduce him to new parts of the house. Thankfully, his daredevil phase ended when he was about six months old, he was an absolute terror...so many injuries and vet visits! Though there have been a lot of changes so far in the house he has still been coming for his lap sit every night, so I think he is doing ok. I know the real challenge will be the new house.

Thanks for the comments. Please keep them coming!
