Has anyone had any experience with microchips moving? I was petting the cat tonight and felt his microchip, it moved! I was able to move it an inch or two in each direction. He didn't notice or seem bothered but it has never moved before. He has had it for about four years.

The microchip is not supposed to move and since it's so tiny, I'm not sure how you're feeling it. I can't feel Raiden's and I've tried to find it. You might want to take your kitty to the vet just to make sure it's the microchip you're feeling and not a movable lump of some type.

I have always been able to feel it. It is like a fat grain of rice. When he first got it they shaved his little shoulder and I could see the red mark from where it was inserted. He is pretty happy being poked and prodded and touched when he gets comfy. I haven't felt for it in a while. When I did touch it and it moved, I freaked out a little bit! I may give the vet a call.

No it shouldn't move, they can migrate after being implanted sometimes depending on where they have been done. But if correctly inserted between the shoulder blades they will remain there with the tissue growing around it and keeping it in situ. You shouldn't be able to move it physically around under the skin to any real degree.

It was implanted on one of his shoulder blades, not between. He wasn't in any discomfort when I was moving it. I honestly thought it was a lump or a bite which is why I was messing with it, then I realized it was his chip. Do you think there is any potential medical issue with it moving?

I originally got it implanted when he was a kitten because he had special needs and was a little daredevil. If he got out and found, I knew he wouldn't be adoptable. Now he has calmed down a lot. I am not worried about him getting out, now I am more concerned about the health side of it.

Max's chip migrated from between his shoulder blades to the outside of one shoulder when he was really tiny. I have always been able to move it around with his skin, but it returns to the same spot when I let go of the skin. I called the breeder and the vet that implanted it when he was still young, and they said it was normal. Our vet keeps an eye on it every year and said it's fine and that some tend to do that when they are on the outside of the shoulder.
