It really breaks my heart - after getting my two I'm very wary and my aunt is looking for a british blue. She's decided she wants an older cat and was looking at taking a retired queen/stud. She found one cat she loved and started making enquiries about it. She's made quite a few phone calls and with the advice I've given her, she's become very aware. This breeder went off the map for a while and my aunt found another cat that's 3 years old, very good pedigree with papers, the owner had got her to breed from but when it came to finding a stud, she didn't like the sound of the breeders (all in it for the money) and never bred from her. They've sold their house and haven't found anywhere yet and are going into rented accommodation and haven't had any luck finding somewhere that will take pets. The whole family is devestated. On top of that this women's eldest son was in a car crash when we had the storm. Is in intensive care and looks like he's paralysed from the waist down. This woman is obviously wanting to find the best possible home for her cat and has fallen in love with my aunt.
So this OTHER breeder contacts my aunt, she's been on holiday, she's refusing to let her see the cat right now. When my aunt asked things like, cat beds, and getting a carrier for bringing her home in. The breeder turned round and said 'oh you don't need one, just put her in a carrier bag'!!!
I actually couldn't believe it! Needless to say my aunt is staying completely clear of that breeder. It's also transpired that the cats are breed from in a shed at the bottom of the garden.
I'm so glad tho that she's found this person who did want to breed but became so aware of the types of breeders out there that she didn't end up breeding.
It just makes you realise just how hard it is to find breeders who do it for the right thing not just for money.
Sorry long post of mainly rambling :)
