Hello!

I just became a Bengal cat owner and as this is my first cat I am not sure what kind of toys I should get for her. She is about 2 years old and I took her from shelter. Maybe you could recommend something? What are your thoughts of toys with cat nip?

My two have a few favorites! Any kind of ball, especially crinkle balls! Da bird is their favorite wand toy, and any style kicker toy! I grow my own cat nip and when it's dried out I put it inside fleece pouches and sew it together! A cardboard box with toys inside and wholes cut in the box is another favorite!!!

I think each cat prefers different toys. My bengal doesn't like any toys. I've purchased dozens of them. He refuses to play with anything with balls. One toy came with a place to put catnip to entice the cat into playing and my cat simply went in to try and eat the catnip. Wand toys? He will play for about a minute. He prefers to chase the wand end and not the toy. I have the original Da Bird and once in a blue moon he will get crazy for it (like last night). I have a big cardboard box with holes and toys in there and he jumps in and right back out. I purchased a "Hot Pursuit" toy that he absolutely went crazy over for the first two days and now he ignores it. He will chase a laser light until he realizes he will never catch the light -- 30 seconds tops. I will give him a larger, stuffed toy and he will wrestle with it about once a week. So, the toys just lay around and don't get used. Mice with catnip -- he sniffs and walks away. My bengal is 6 years old but still very playful. I have, on occasion, stalked him on my hands and knees but he thinks I'm large prey and he will swipe at me. I picked up something for him last night that was like a tunnel with some toys. Then, after opening the box, realized the tunnel is plastic and he loves to lick and try to bite the plastic. So now I'll try to find a paper bag and see if I can adapt that. My husband did have a large rubber band that he was supposed to use to exercise with and Raiden went totally crazy for i the first night. We had him jumping high in the air. Now ... nothing. So, the end of the wand it is. I cover it up with a baby blanket and he loves to pounce on it as it plays peek-a-boo with him. I think that is why there are thousands of cat toys out there. And you will buy dozens and dozens of them until you find one that the cat will like -- and I bet the best one will actually be something so cheap or made from materials you have at home.

Hiya! I know you want to shower her with presents, but see if there is anything at home that she likes before you spend lots on things she could care less about.

I've found that for all the toys I've bought it's a drinking straw that really gets mine going, so have given up buying stuff. She may like crumpled up paper, the inside of a toilet roll or the top off the milk, lol. A wand toy (or a piece of string) would be a good idea, as most cats can't help themselves and will pounce and chase.

Not all cats are bothered by catnip, so it's worth a try, she'll either go mad for it, or not.
