Is that even possible??? I read cats should not be toilet trained. Whsts your views on it

I personally don't agree with it! I think it would be very hard to monitor your cats urine and feces! I think a lot of illness is early detected by changes in either! To me it is obvious that cats use litter or something that is compared, other than an EG! They tend to do their business in water, because of the ALC! The basic concept of it shows you that cats prefer litter because you have to use litter to train them to the toilet!

My daughter tried toilet training her two cats without much success. Occasionally, her male will hop up and pee when the lid is left open.

I never saw the sense in it, myself. We travel so much that I think Quasar would just be confused with so many different toilets in so many different "houses".

I am also not quite sure what he would do with a vault toilet in a campsite.

My intention really isn't to replace all or even reduce the litter boxes in the house with the cats using the toilet. I have always been curious and figured this was a pretty cheap way to give it a shot. I figured if even one of them learns and uses it sometimes, it will be a little less to clean up!

I am aware of the issues with chemicals and cats. I will try it in the "cat" bathroom so they will have their own separate toilet, which will help with the sanitary/flushing issue. To be honest, once you have more than one cat, any bathroom issues become a case of detective work anyway, so throwing another receptacle into the mix really won't make a difference. All of my cats are too big to drown in the toilet and none play in the water so I don't foresee a problem there either.

Once a cat is litter trained, I think it would take some serious behavior modification (for example, no access to litter boxes anywhere for a very long time), to break that habit. I think of my prissy girl pooping in a litter box that had no litter in it (it was drying from being cleaned) the bathtub. She knew what it was and what it was used for, even though that style of box wasn't one she had used/seen in years!

I've never particularly liked the idea of toilet training a cats for all the reasons mentioned above.

Related story - A past employee at the animal shelter I work at adopted one of the kittens from there a few years back. I remember her going around bragging about how she was training all her cats to use the toilet rather than the litter box, showing everyone pictures etc. I thought it was weird but didn't think much of it. Come to find out, about a year later, she returned the kitten she adopted because it "developed" toileting issues... Needless to say we all thought she was a moronic b**** for trying to force that on her cats then getting rid of one when it got confused. The cat never had any issues with using the litter box once she came back to the shelter...

So yeah, there can be lots of issues with it and the poor cats can get confused. Our F1 tried using the toilet a few times as a kitten but thankfully now he's a 100% full-time litter box user. I guess I can see the appeal to some people of not having to buy litter or scoop a litter box, but imo the benefits just don't outweigh the possible risks.

I like the idea of no more litter! But I don't like the idea of the loo seat up, we clean our toilet, they fell in?? Got cleaner on their paws and licked it?? We keep the loo seat down and bathroom door shut 24-7 with cats here, as I just think its too dangerous, I have had kitten owners train one of my kittens with great success though, took them 7days!

I have heard that Bengals are one of the breeds that are very easy to train! I would honestly LOVE to not have to scoop the litter boxes everyday! It would make things easier no doubt, but I don't think it is in the best interest of the cat! I honestly have a hard enough time keeping my kids out of the bathrooms and playing in the water, I don't need my furry kids in there too I am curious tho, if you do train them do you use the same bathroom as they do? That just seems weird to me I cant imagine company coming over and the cat trots out of the bathroom after using the toilet! How do you explain that

There are three toilets in the house - one downstairs, one in the master bedroom, and another hallway bathroom. The hallway bathroom is the cat room. There are litterboxes and it serves as the quarentine room. When we have overnight guests, we mega clean that bathroom and the cat stuff goes in the master bathroom temporarily.

I can picture my family walking into the downstairs bathroom and being like "OK, who didn't flush!!!?!" though. LOL!!

We'll see how it goes. Right now it is out of the box and they are taking turns sitting on it!
