What a miserable day here! It's raining pouring and Dexter is still under the sofa :(

Hows everyone elses day going?

Hugs, Gem x

Mine's horrible too - first time back in work since before Christmas and I'm finding it really hard to motivate myself. Didn't help that the kitties looked at me as if I was abandoning them when I walked out this morning.

PS My lot also spent their first few days under the sofa!

hiya, i'm having a very lazy day after the weekend.

i would give dexter a room to himself, bring him out once an hour for about 10 mins but keep him in a cat carrier. if you put him on a chair, he will be able to avoid eye contact with the others if he needs to & also feel safe in his carrier that he is protected from them.

gradually increase the time you bring him out for, & when he is starting to be more confident, leave the door to the carrier open so it is his choice whether or not to be bold enough to venture out.

it should only take a day or two of doing this before he regains his confidence & feels comfortable around the older boys. you don't want him to be scared.

Hey Hun,

Dexter does have his own room which he has been in most of the time. This morning he meowed to go to see the others then hid! Managed to get him back out now and his back in his room again.

Think we will try your suggestion of using the cage to interact for 10 mins every hour that's a good plan thanks :D

Give him a few days and take it slow until he is more comfortable with everyone. He might still be overwhelmed by all the changes in his life. My foster male was very inquisitive shortly after he got here and looked ready to explore the whole house, but then went into hiding for a couple of days to come to grips with what had just happened. After a week or so in the foster room, he was ready to accept his new surroundings and explore again. Sometimes they just need a little while to digest change.

I'm happy today; shiny clean house, shiny clean cat pens (too fragile to move yesterday  ) and 3 very on heat queens howling for England

Btw, does anyone know if there is a bird that makes a 'cricket/grasshopper' sound?? I can hear what sounds like a giant grasshopper in the garden but thought it wasn't the time of year for them? :? Can't see any birdies either!

the animals have been doing weird things this year tho apparently...i've heard someone say (on one of the forums or lists, can't remember where) that the rabbits in her garden were doing a mating dance...now, that's far too early in the year. so maybe it is a cricket or grasshopper.
