Hi, all.

I haven't written in a while and sad to say the impetus for posting this is rather unfortunate. Previously I had written two posts that discussed the possibility of doing business with Lucia, the owner of Mayaville Productions. For reference, those posts are here and here. I have requested the threads be taken down so that Lucia can have peace of mind. Until then, you will still be able to view them.

Yesterday Lucia called me twice on my cell phone and sent me an e-mail, telling me to contact her regarding an urgent issue. Since we had spoken at length in the past and discussed adopting a bengal from her, I called back right away, worried she might have a cat that needed rehoming or fostering, etc. Instead, I was greeted with a stream of insults, informing me that she had found the aforementioned posts and how dare I slander her name and spread lies, telling me that I am a horrible, inconsiderate, awful person with no integrity who seeks to harm others, how this is bad karma and that she had me all wrong, is disappointed in me and if she ever sees me walking on the street she will cross to the other side. I can't begin to tell you the verbal abuse I endured for 20+ minutes, unable to get a word in edgewise. Eventually, I politely told her I would request the posts be removed, and then hung up. She then called me twice more to leave equally hurtful voicemails. Needless to say, that was not what I expected when I had picked up the phone! Lucia appears to be upset that I discussed her business in a public forum and that others commented on it with their opinions - some positive, neutral and negative, but not malicious or towards herself as a person (and nothing that seem to me to be "lies" or "slander").

She then proceeded to send me two long, argumentative e-mails and when I didn't respond, sent a third CC'd to my boyfriend, and when that didn't work, sent an e-mail BCC'd to all the clients she has ever done business with. Does that seem a little over the top? Is it really so egregious that she needs to air her grievances with me to all her clients?

In any case, because I hope the original posts will be removed soon, I thought I would at least let the community know why, and to put this out there for anyone searching for information on Mayaville in the future. I had no issues dealing with Lucia as a person, she was always courteous to me and although I did have some questions about her personal breeding choices, I am by no means an expert (hence the reason I sought advice from members of the forum). I have no doubt that she has many clients satisfied with their kittens (at one point I was going to be one of them) - but knowing what I know now, I would never want to do business with someone who so viciously attacks a potential customer like this.

I do have some of the "corrections" to the "lies" I told that she sent to me that I can post if requested, but I don't want to make this post TL;DR.

Thanks for listening! I feel a little shaken and had to share with someone, and to let everyone know that this is a person who does NOT want her business, cattery or cats discussed on the internet! Who knew?

P.S. On a lighter note, have a photo of Stash and Sid doing what they do best!

Sorry to hear about your ordeal!! I can personally say that I didn't find anything that would put me off from buying from any particular breeder in your previous post  also WELCOME back  Stash is as handsome as ever!!! Cheer up, take what others say and leave it alone no sense in stressing!! A little tip!! Next time someone wants to call and give you an ear full hang up   don't give them the time of day! Like I said nothing in those post(IMO of course) made me think anything negative about the breeder, in fact I was all for you getting her kitten!! Just don't sweat it!!!!!!

I think if anyone sets themselves up selling anything, even kittens, then they have to be prepared for people in general or clients discussing their business, all over the internet.
Discussing whether the business gives good or bad service or whether their goods are genuine, fit for purpose or value for money, is par for the course.
That is just the way it is.

Blimey you've been through the mill...

Some breeders can be veeerrryyyy funny about what they deem as their business being discussed - I know as I've been on the receiving end after putting my foot in it (and that was only done privately) but by god did I know about it - unfortunately because of that I never have had any dealings with said breeder and don't ever intend to either.

Unfortunately I think alot of breeders have had their fair share of issues with other breeders at one time or another and can make them very paranoid - thing is they HAVE to accept that their kitten buyers will want to ask opinions and do their homework! I think its an admirable trait that you care enough to find out information, ask for advice etc - to me that says someone who also would be willing to put the work in with their kitten should anything crop up.

I think it is said she has acted this way as missed out on a very good home for one of her kittens.

I should also add on the flip side it can be VERY frustrating for breeders to have people post on forums such as this with possible issues with their kittens (usually diet/toileting relating) and they do not go to the breeder first hand - but would rather ask a thousand strangers then take a blind bit of notice of what is and has been instructed from the person who has raised that kitten from birth.

Does not sound very pleasant at all.

I was harsh on them for not vaccinating in the first thread and defended them a little in the second.

I think that breeders need to understand that buyers may research them and ask questions on forums and social media sites.

As a breeder, I would hope any buyer would come to me with problems. Like mentioned by Claire. But that is a bit different to asking opinions before a sale which is perfectly acceptable. Only can be offended really if the breeder doesn't cross all their T's.... Otherwise it is great advertisement for them.

Haha Crazy Cat Lady's begin crazy. Of course she could have just taken the hint, started vaccinating her kittens, joined the forum and explained her side. But freaking out and going crazy is a good option too
