The good news is the VW Jetta and Bora were on sale here, so apart from the wheel being all to crook the car should be fine! I believe one was a 'grey import', the other was the UK model.....

Wheel being "crook"? If your referring to how I have wide tires and spacers on my car. If you look at them the contact surface is inside the wheel well but my rims extended to the outside of the car. Its called "stretch n poke" because the tire is too small for the rim and stretched. This originated in Germany so you could have wide rims and be street legal.

This is just a dream/curiosity but I think it'd be cheaper to bring it than buy a car. I wouldn't get much to sell it because nobody could work on it.

How are emissions figured? Manufacturer specs? Do they dyno or pipe it. My car gets better gas mileage now(28mpg-35mpg). I don't have a catalytic converter but where I live if the computer says its there it passes they don't look.

I'll speak to my techie friend here, see what she can do about OH's parents' hard drive getting wiped. Needless to say, they're paranoid about people accessing their data but doesn't know how to do it themselves unless you have simple step by step instructions, preferably with screen shots and circles around which bits to press etc, but doesn't want said hard drive to leave their site in case anybody decided to try and steal data when it's meant to be wiped

not sure of the specifics of the Jetta/Bora, but OH has a 1.8L Vauxhall/Opel Corsa and it's not eco-friendly, so he pays about £200+ road tax on it a year in addition to MOTs which don't cost very much (you can find a garage which does it for £50), but adding servicing and all to it so it gets passed, you'll probably spend about £400 or so to get past the MOT? Also, if I remember correctly, provided it's before a certain year (I can't remember specific year, but was between 1970 and 1975 as the cut off) you don't pay any road tax at all. Having said that, OH's 1982 Porsche 944 has a 2.5L and he pays less road tax on that than his Corsa!

I don't know how to wipe a hard drive, truthfully besides work I never use computers. I think a Google search would be easiest. Probably a program you can run or like I said a format of the HD might do it unless you have some expensive machine to analyze it.

The 1.8L engine I have is in alot of different cars and years so probably the same. I think "eco friendly" is different here.

Thanks for the replies its fun to dream so don't go out of your way.

Aw Minx, He He! I guess it's off, then! :P

The wheel being 'crook' is cos its on the WRONG SIDE! As long as the wheel arches are extended, and the tyres have about 1" clearance to avoid any rubbing then you are OK - For now! The emissions are measured anually at the MOT inspection, although it would probably be tested on an import with that many modifications as part of the registration process. Then again, it might simply be presumed to be the same for that make / model as the UK sold ones are! You just never know with UK laws......

We did seize a car (2 year old VW Golf GTi) a while ago on my beat cos the stretch n poke elements had been done, but the arches weren't extended so the wheels rubbed the arch on full lock! And the tyres were a size too small for the rims, so the stretch left them barely seated in the beading! A catastrophe just waiting to happen! The idiot actually told us he "never used full lock, so it was OK"!?!?!? £300 fine, 6 points and a kick up the ar5e from his angry Dad!

Ummm U Fuzz?
IDK "full lock" but nothing rubs suspension or steering so no "barking from the dog house" not sure I have a full inch
I'm a few sizes too small factory was 285 I'm 225 so barely seated you can see the inside of the rim. Performance is my main concern so the stretch scared me. But thing is find someone who has had a problem many people are far more stretched without issue and the Mexicans do it to their lowriders and make them bounce and ride around on 3 wheels I don't get it. Same with drift racing no issue. Logic says a catastrophic failure but it works? My state police can't do anything to me. There not mechanics so as long as it passes yearly inspection I'm OK not all states are like that. What about window tint?
£300! WOW that's high If I exceed double the speed limit AND exceed 85mph its not that high both of those are automatic loss of license. I've got both together 3X now and never lost my license. I kind of figured out our system  Don't know how your points work but 6 gets you to take a drivers exam. I've done that 4X if you don't pass your an idiot. It makes me so sad people don't pass. The questions are almost in street talk not proper English and word problems with pictures. The way the questions are in away the answer is obvious. Takes me 10min I getting 100% others are in there an hour and fail? Kinda scary actually.

He he guess its off, then? Wut is that the opposite like we say its on, then? Is confuzd

Another thing do you have Heinz Ketchup? That would suk hard.

Hay now
I say it all the time and people laugh but its true. "Fast and Furious changed my life" I would never have thought a small 4-6 cylinder car could smoke a 5.8L V8 with a blower. Intercooling has really changed things from muscle car days.

If you use the term "proper" to describe a car obviously its not any good. But I never herd of it so I looked it up. I must say I'm quite impressed even in stock form an amazing car. Was it the escort or sierra? I can read between the lines on specs and some good cars you just can't improve. Its why I chose the 1.8L lots of stuff you can do to add power. The RS Cosworth seem easily modified it even has a Garrett Turbo which means a standard T3 manifold is available factory  To get a forged T3 mani made is difficult and expensive. I had to do it for my car probably single hardest part to get right and most expensive too. All the photos I saw showed left hand steering but I've never seen one? Don't think we had them.

We had the sierra it was great. After that my dad got a subaru impreza - even with the gold wheels lol But he said it was never a patch on the cossie - he took a school friend of mine and me for a 'special' ride in the cossie and our heads were stuck to the head rests the whole time - my friend came out looking rather pale

I'd take the cossie. It was rear wheel bias compared to symmetrical AWD. The sierra had a Borg-Warner T5 not shabby by any means but still being able to pop a factory T3 Mani in is huge and very rare.
I wanted an impreza WRX but I planed on a project car and the trany just can't handle what I wanted to put out and insurance is high. Truthfully I hated VW because my parents were hippies but solid steel block and forged pistons and rods and I pay insurance on a 4 door economy, I had to. I must say its a fun car even factory if not more so, its stupid fast now but alot of lag so off the line and short distance soooo slow. Most fun was everything I could do with factory Turbo. Not a ton up top but the intense hit of power slammed you in the seat and literally turned the rim in the tire and made it go flat I had to glue them on. Now it holds you to the seat but rolls on not the kick.

They raised the speed limit in 1987 to 75mph. In my state most are 65mph depends where you live. What's you question how does what work?

Don't worry about the technical stuff but the escort RS cossie just passed Toyota AE86 on my unknown cars I want to import list. I've never seen one and it looks like a great fun project car. The engine and trany are amazing Ford never built anything like it here. Technology wise Ford only used a Turbo in a petrol vehicles this year in a truck. My dad bought one its nice but listening to the dealers, Ford manuals and Ford forums they have no idea how a Turbo works its like they're cavemen just figuring out fire. Thanks for turning me on to that car
