Hello, I am highly allergic to cats. I am now taking xyzal and fluticasone-(nose spray). I have tried claratin, allergra, and zyrtec. Does anyone else suffer from allergies and if so what do you take?

Yes I'm allergic to cats Claritin is effective for me so was Zyrtec. I had no side effect on either. I'd swap between them to try to avoid any tolerance. I started taking them regularly usually at night because getting up all stuffy sucks or tossing and turning. Then I'd forget and the symptoms would return in a couple of days. After a while I cold go longer between now I don't take anything. The only time its a problem is if I'm stressed or sick. Funny thing other cats bother me still  I had to buy it and leave it at my parents house for their cat. Even scratches from their cat look different than my cat all raised and itchy.

Also washing my hands after some loving is key.

What symptoms do you have? Mine is raised scratches or red eyes, sneezing etc if I rub my eyes. I'm fine with any cat as long as I wash with soap and water after touching. If I'm in someone's house has alot of cats or dust and cigarettes I'm in trouble. So keep the cat out of the bedroom. But on the other hand my cat spends every night in my bed maybe that helped my immunity?

Good luck you might get over it

I get red itchy eyes, small hives, my nose gets stuffed up and it then drips. I sneeze a lot. it feels like little cat hairs are tickling the inside of my nose, my ears also itch inside.

One of the strongest allergy medicines prescription or OTC is still Benadryl. It has a very strong side effect of making you sleepy and only lasts 4-6hr. In fact most sleeping pills are just expensive Benadryl renamed. Benadryl is effective against hives. Claritin recently added hives to the list but I don't think its very effective. A topical steroid is the most effective against hives like hydrocortisone.

I suggest Benadryl before bed and Claritin in the morning. Hydrocortisone as needed. Try to seen yourself off if your liker me you won't need it for long. It was gradual for me over 6 months maybe. Clean often, yourself and home. Use a vac or air filter that is HEPA an ionizer is good to.

Good luck any questions just ask.

Both the boyfriend and I get by with Zyrtec, him 1 for every 24 hours, otherwise he gets super itchy skin, itchy eyes, hives, eczema break outs.
I get by with 1 Zyrtec every 2 or 3 days, to combat random super itchy skin is all that I get-- not even sure if this is related to a 'cat allergy' but it helps
