I'd seriously love a cat wheel, it looks a hoot! I wonder if they are difficult to build. The boyfriend is handy with tools and his head, I might suggest the challenge to him one day see if he'll help me make one :D

I got a large hamster wheel for my budgie many moons ago, he loved it to death, until one fateful day he fell tripping over his chubby budgie toes and took the whole lot down and got stuck under it! he was never quite as happy to play on it after that, lol. Bless him. Watching birds run creases me every time!

I'll keep that cat wheel site bookmarked, may have to be something I invest in either way, buy or build!

One of my kitten owners decided to build their own wheel after seeing ours and seeing the price - he vowed never again lol
He had help from an engineer friend and although he did complete it - it was somewhat of a 'squ-eel' in places (ie abit square not round)

I don't think building a cat wheel would be that hard really. I've heard you can use the bearing from a washing machine and then just mount the wheel itself onto the bearing. Then its just a matter of providing a stable base so your cats don't take the whole bloody thing through the wall

Here's a good reference for cat wheels someone has put together. http://jillyotz.blogspot.com.au/2011/01 ... art-1.html

Heh, yea, a lot of people say that. Very very few people actually attempt it, and fewer still come up with something that isn't horrible. Most of the attempts that I've seen have ended badly. There's a reason why even decent wheels cost a bazillion dollars... because they are difficult to make and very few people make them successfully.

We'll see how my Kiwi ingenuity fares when I build one some day  I would have to renounce my citizenship if I let a cat wheel get the better of me :D
