I didn't know whether to post these in the gallery and then thought I'd better add them here as they're not of Bengals

These beauties live down the road from me at Marwell Zoo - it was siesta time for the servals but still lunchtime for the ocelots - they also had two kittens that were throwing their food in the air - now where have I seen that sort of behaviour before....?!





Hope the first one doesn't upset anyone too much with the detail?? I will remove it if anyone's offended......

Yes, Marwell is a great place, just down the road from us - we did have a bit of a huff with them a while ago as they unfortunately lost two Amur leopards in what could be called avoidable circumstances - given that there are only a very few of these left in the world it was very upsetting....but it's generally a great place for conservation, and the enclosures are very good for photography - have a look on my Facebook account for some more pictures

it's sad about the amur leopards, i remember reading about those awhile back, didn't realise marwell had some (well, did have some).

They do still have two - a male and female, kept in a specially designed enclosure (separately most of the time ). One of the cats died as it managed to escape through the netting at the top of the enclosure and fell from a tree while a rescue attempt was happening - the other loss was a cub that crawled through the rockery that separates the male and female sections and it was attacked by the father - it was tragic and it should have all been avoided...but don't get me started on that as it makes me really mad

I did take a couple of photos of one of the leopards - didn't come out as well as the other ones (due to the really thick plexiglass separating us!) but here you go:

I was the one who anaesthesied this big guy, and I tried the catheter but didn't manage it (on the xray photo it's the zoo vet, not me ).
That was in a zoo in Quebec...

There were some ocelots too but no photos online...

what a fantastic experience that must have been. i have a big soft spot for tigers, they are my favourite of the big ones. closely followed by all the rest tho hehe

what was wrong with that one? hope he was ok.

He had broken teeth (you can see one on the pic) and we filled them out (well a dentist did ) to avoid infection.

This is one of the tigers at the animal refuge I volunteer at. They have tigers, lions, wolves, bears coyotes, fox....etc. This pic was taken while she was in her enclosure.
