We are thinking of replacing our Astra (nearly one year old now) with a new car, and we would both really like a jaguar. Not because of the prestige and all that, but because we love the cars. Does anyone own one and could you tell me what they are like for day-to-day use. I need a car not only because I am disabled and live in a rural village, but also for my business and transporting the moggies.

Then there is usual stuff like shopping (yawn), ferrying around the husband, picking nephew up from school, day trips and driving for holidays. We would prob only consider a diesel and a 4/5 door. I am not into a sporty car, but more something solid, practical and nice.

So, any general tips on your Jag will be very welcome.

My Dad always had a jag, always kept for best packed away in the garage and brought out for weddings and going to the motor show at the NEC.

His last one was an XJS, gawd knows how many litre V12 engine.

You needed a second mortgage to go shopping in it twice but it was a superb ride

I had to read that about ten times to raelise you meant a car!!!!!!!!

Jags are nice cars, generally with a nice specification.
They do guzzle fuel and can be expensive to maintain. They have a reasonable build quality and I'm not aware of massive mechanical issues however the biggest issue I had with them was the seats and ride comfort.
I suffer terribly (even when driving) with travel sickness and unless the Jaguar is a 'R' model I generally start to feel unwell within 15minutes. I found the seats very hard and un-supportive which is really important to me - i need very supportive seats as I do have back issues.

In my honest opinion, for the type of Jaguar I think you might be looking at (from your post), I think there are other cars out there that would do the job better.

Dont get me wrong, I dont want to put you off if you and your partner have your heart set on one - but in my experience (with the exception of the very fast R models) Jaguars are brought because of the badge. Its a fact that some of the Jaguars are really a Mondeo, and I personally think the mondeo is a better car
