I thought it might be a good idea for there to be a members area for the people who have been on the forum for a while to be able to have access to, say maybe if they have been on for over a certain amount of months and posted a certain amount of posts? I figure then the people that are newbies can establish themselves to be genuine and join the members area and we can suss out the trolls? without possibly offending a newbie?

I am not very good at explaining what i mean sorry :?

Kind of like a private area where we can discuss amongst ourselvs stuff we dont want a non member to see? Like whether we think someone is a troll or maybe even anounce something special that we may not want someonewho is not a member to see?

I hope that makes sense? :?

That seems a good idea. Maybe sections you can't post in until your post count is say above 5 in other general sections. A troll wont make 5 posts without being noticed.

We also seem to get a lot of is my cat a bengal or not posters? Could they have a section for this? Advise people not to go to BYB who say they have a bengal/bengal cross. Do their research etc. Give a list of bengal characteristics/pictures they can look at.

Often the story is 'I got my cat in rescue and I think it's a bengal'. I wonder sometimes if it should be 'I was told this was a bengal and I think I've been scammed'.

This is a fab idea. I'm sure that when people just read threads on here without even registering could nick it and put on another site to cause upset.

Having our own private section so only those with a certain post count can read is a very good idea indeed MissFreya :D

Wouldn't really be a public forum then....misses the point completely IMO.

Just my thoughts... :)

I like the fact that even the characters who come across as trolls (one post and it negative) get treated with respect and get replies which are sensible and well thought out.

Maybe your right on the public forum bit! Maybe we just need a bit more signage to advise people to introduce themselves before getting stuck in with the negatives.

Oh and another post just reminded me. Can we have somewhere that shows where and when the up and coming cat shows are. Someone just posted results of a cat show. I'd love to know when and where the cat shows are coz if any are near to me I may just go.

Perhaps a sticky in the Showing section?

(sorry I know this is off topic from the original post).

Don't really like the idea of a non public section - we already have a reputation as being a non friendly forum, having a section where people can whisper about new members would only add to this.

Don't have a problem with having a Newbies section though if that's what people want....

In other forums I'm a member of, there's a subscribers section, when a subscription payment is made either per month or per year, sometimes just as a token gesture, but that either goes towards the running of the site or to a charity. They also have access to various different features on the board depending on the boards facilities. Perhaps that could be something to consider? I'm not sure trolls would subscribe personally, and I'm sure the admins would appreciate some help with the cost of running the site?

The cost of running the site is pretty much covered by the google adverts, as long as people keep clicking on them.... We don't make a profit, I've not worked it out, but we probably just about break even. TBH, I can't be bothered with the tax implications of making it a subscription site, even if it was donated to charity, this would all have to be recorded etc....

I agree that new members should really introduce themselves on arrival, it'd be nice to know a little about the person/cat that your willing to offer advice to/for. However, some people just don't want all that, they just require information....and personally, I'd rather they got the help/advice they need, whether they introduced themselves or not....for the sake of the cat!

There's many regular lurkers on here who have never registered or posted, they soak it all up I'm sure, and thats the main intention of these boards....we stay as a public forum that doesn't require any registration to view posts for this very reason.

I suppose we could always continue PM'ing those who we want to talk privately too.
