Looks like Avatars aren't working, so I've disabled them for the time being till I work out what is wrong, as they look messy when they're not working!

Did you try updating it to the lastest version ? ;)

Or at least getting the avatar page coding and uploading it again... (that's what I do when smthg doesn't work on my forum).

There's a new version of PHPBB out today, so I'm planning an upgrade to that - however I don't want to break anything in the process, so I will be trying an offline upgrade first.

Good news - I've done an offline upgrade to PHPBB3 and it worked quite well. Looks impressive with some great mods coming out too.

The style is totally different however, so I will need to develop a new template.

I will also need a new host, which I've been considering doing for a while anyway....

Is it easy ? I had a look 2 days ago and it seemed there were quite a few steps so as phpBB2 is working fine for me I'm just not changing yet  (I've also got quite a few MODs).

Wouldn't say it was easy - you need a separate database which to import into. Which can be a problem if your hosting only allows one.

It then runs a script which takes the phpbb2 database, converts it and imports it into the new database. Problem is, many hosts stop scripts from running too long/consuming too much CPU resource, so many people are finding that the upgrade script fails. The workaround is to do the upgrade locally on your PC i.e. setup a replica forum offline and do it that way. This is what I will probably do.

Also, the styles/templates have totally changed in structure, so you have to create a new one rather that just copy the old one over....

So no, not exactly easy  The improvements it brings look worthwhile though....

I guess Gavin didn't have time to repair it... ;)

Gavin, if you need the original code, I guess I can send it to you !
