Would it be possible when people register on the forum for at least the country to be mandatory?

So many people ask things that it would be really helpful to know a country at least, to try to give the best advice/information that is relevant.

yes totally.
So many things are location dependant that the contributors you have... often find themselves asking ''where are you?'' before they can offer the right advice.

This was done the first time you suggested it Heather, try and re-register and you'll see it's now a mandatory field.

Unfortunately, it only applies to the profile page and not the post body, I've tried to replicate it onto the post body without success, it's just not possible without manually coding it in and that's something I'm really not proficient enough with, some things I can do, but this is beyond my skill level I'm afraid. There is no easy plugin or mod that does it, just as with the 'Like' button that's been requested in the past; phpBB is open source, all mods/plugins are homegrown and most only work correctly on vanilla boards.

It's just not as easy as flicking a switch or selecting an option, I wish it was. Sorry.

Not sure if it's relevant here but when you enter your location you get an 'invalid characters' message. This was after trying UK, United Kingdom, Great Britain, GB and other combos, only to get the same error!

Mandatory is awesome (as it IS helpful) but less awesome when you can't put it in!

The default setting for any new custom field is between 4-20 alphanumeric characters; now changed to accommodate abbreviations and spacing.

Thanks Luke

Just need to educate people to put their location so we can see it now!
