Can anyone please confirm the colouring of our kitten? The breeder says it a Solid Mink - a rare colouring, we are new to owning this breed and would love more information? I can only find a couple of similar ones online and would like to confirm Thank you for your help!

I was gonna say he looks solid mink to me, I wouldn't say it's a rare colour there seem to be more and more around these days although it's not bred for so not seen as desirable as they can't be shown. I wouldn't pay extra just because he's a solid mink though and also make sure you do the usual checks that he's healthy, his parents are TICA registered (even more important with these uncommon colours to make sure they aren't something like a Tonk or Burmese cross) and his parents have had pkdef and possibly HCM health checks as well.

From what I understand about it a solid mink is a snow version of a melanistic Bengal (black similar to a panther) and it's the mink variant of it.

Also it would be better if you had a side view photo so people could see his rosettes as the colouring otherwise is Tonkinese if there aren't rosettes or spots.

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad you could verify that for me! I am in England (not sure if that makes a difference?) but the breeder says there aren't many solid minks here! Can't wait for him to come home to us tomorrow! I have tried to attach a picture I've been given of him lying on his side, hope you can view it?!!

I'm in England myself :) there are a few of them here but it's far from a common colour. It's the same as normal melanistics in the sense that they show up from time to time but not many people actually breed for them because from what I know you can't show them although you can TICA register them etc.

Make sure you get your paperwork and you don't pay an arm and a leg for a "rare" colour they should be priced similar to the others colours or less. That said judging by the rosettes I would say your little one is Bengal and it would be really interesting to see a solid mink grow up as usually I just see photos of adults. I'm hoping you stick around and enjoy your Bengal adventure and if you need any help the members of this forum are always happy to help.

Any ideas on names for the little one?

What a beautiful baby! Solid minks are not very common at all. Registration paperwork will list the type of bengal you are getting.

What a beautiful baby! I can't wait to see how the color develops as the baby gets bigger.
