Hi from Seattle WA. I just brought a retired TICA reg. Silver Bengal queen age 6 yrs home from her last cattery in the past 3 weeks She seemingly hasn't been socialized much & is a quite shy (when I saw her at the cattery she was in her own kennel next to other queens in their own houses & she was hiding out in her litter box. She has been at home in a quiet bedroom getting use to her own space. She eats well & uses her litter box..just tends to head for under the bed whenever I go into the room but will engage in wand play most days for a bit. I am currently using J. Galaxy's Scardy Cat solution daily & Feliway diffuser. Vet gave me lorazapam for her food & it seems to take some edge/anxiety off but I would prefer less RX. Isis is not the first Bengal I have owned but am hoping to introduce her to the other 2 senior (10yrs old) ladies in our house (one a Siamese mix & the other a gray tabby) by Sept. so.. what would be a reasonable daily doseage level of Zylkene to start her on. I don't know her exact weight probably 6-8lbs.

I am a new forum member & all is due to my daughter finding this forum & she twisted my arm when we were visiting the cattery where she got her two new kittens.

I've used Zylkene successfully with my two - they are over 6kg (13 pounds plus) and require two capsules per day. For the weight you are talking about (ie under 5kg) that would be one capsule per day. All the information should be with the packaging or on their website though.

I know many cat owners are hesitant to use medication on a cat. First of all, bless you for taking in a retired queen. She is used to simply raising babies, so this is all new to her. Time and patience is what is needed! I am concerned about introducing her to the other kitties. She needs to have her confidence built back up before this happens. It is natural for her to want to hide and be anxious. She is now in a totally different environment with people and smells. The BEST thing you can do is to go into her safe room and sit down and read a book to her or talk softly to her. Let her approach you. See if she will take treats, or want to play with a toy. But, she needs to advance at HER pace. And it could take weeks or months. There are many queens who are not socialized -- and I'm hoping this one will come out of her shell and bond with you and your other kitties. Just take things slow, very slow.
