morning all

this is our new kitty Mila, who I have been told is a pure bread Bengal, however I the breeder is being really sticky about registering her which has got me worried.

the dealer is likely on this forum so, confirmation here is not going to change the fact that I still want her registered as we paid registered Bengal prices for her under the impression she was already registered.

we love her none the less though. what are your thoughts? she is now 3 months old.

I am no expert but she looks Bengal to me. How is the breeder being "sticky" about registration? She may, indeed, be purebred but not registerable for any number of reasons. Possibly one or both parents have not been registered with permission to breed. This would exclude kittens from registration.

She is adorable and so precious! I'd press for the registration -- if Mila can be registered. Know that many breeders only register the litter and the owner is provided a blank form with just the litter information on there (at least that's what I got for Raiden from his previous owner). As long as the parents are registered, there should be no problem registering Mila.

If this is a legit breeder and she isn't spayed already you probably will not get the papers until she is spayed. She is very much so a bengal so I wouldn't worry about that. Did you sign a contract with her?

a bit more history to the situation, when we went to collect her I forgot (in the excitement) to verify any of the paperwork and to even collect the documents, it was only when I got home a messaged her my details for her to process the change of ownership on the kittens registration documents that she told me she was not registered and wouldn't be. When asked why not no reason is given and she got very defensive.
In South Africa, this process is very cheap ($25) and simple assuming both parents are registered, this is where I believe the issue may be. I think the father (who also was not available to view) might not be registered, and hence why she cant register Mila, she wont admit to this though.

If she cant be registered it is not a problem at all, however it is a bit cheeky to charge me top dollar price for a Bengal that isn't actually a pedigree Bengal (unregistered Bengal kittens sell for about half what I paid). The main excuses have been that it is not necessary to have her registered as we cant breed with her, and because she has been sprayed we apparently cant show her either.

I have emailed the South African breeders association to see if the breeder is registered with them.

we really love her so much and her character is really starting to come out. I will share some more pictures later today.

She's a beauty but definitely not full bengal. Can't be sure what else she is crossed with though.

The father could have been a cross or a non-bengal.

I honestly think she is pure bengal! She has the pattern, coat, and over all look of a bengal! She is a very pretty girl and even tho she came from a shady breeder I wouldn't doubt that she is bengal. Lesson learned, next time find someone that's not in breeding for the money.

I agree very important to go to a reputable breeder but there are so many out there breeding bengals it can become confusing for people. I was going on physical appearance eg the facial features are not quite bengal, she has massive ears and I can see small ear tufts. Also, the colour of the marbling is rather dark and looks more like that of a classic tabby.

Mmm ... I'm certainly no expert but on first viewing I thought definitely a full Bengal but now I'm beginning to wonder. There is something about her looks that has me a little suspicious.

I wouldn't go by the ears though my Dexter has huge ears lol! The tail doesn't look very ringed though
