I started another batch of catnip and it has taken off well so it's time to re-pot the catnip to a bigger planter.

Tuffy is going to help me and Stretch-Cat will do the 'supervising'!

Image
Looks like a great plant, it was a small plant from PetSmart about 4 weeks ago!

Image
Tuffy is making sure the soil packed well, and Stretch-Cat is doing a
fine job of supervising!

Image
Last minute taste test, before transferring it to the larger pot, we'll give ya'll
a 'farm report' in a couple of weeks! ... more pics to follow!

Well, it's been several weeks and the "catnip farm" has really taken off.
Tuffy enjoys pruning the catnip, he and Stretch Cat like the afternoons when we take then out in the patio so they can tend
to thier gardening 'chores'.

I was messing about with the laptops' webcam and Tuffy decided to join
me, his picture was too funny, a bit close to the camera I think...

   loving the pictures of them with the catnip farm (not sure why I didn't see any of them when you first posted  ). Do they just nibble it or do they eat full leaves?

What a fabulous post! I love the story of Tuffy from cute ball o' fluff until now. I have only read the start and the end, off to read the middle now too. What a darling.

Both! sometimes they just sniff, punch holes in the leaves or tear small bites, then sometimes the find a spot and start munching leaf after leaf, THEN something Tuffy decides he needs to stand or sit in the middle of the pot and 'graze' like a cow! I also snip off a bit and bring it in the house for them when I don't feel like taking them out, they are strictly indoors cats.
It's funny to watch Tuffy love and rub on the flower pot before he decides to tear into it!

One morning the catnip plant was completely flatten out and traces of white and yellow cat hair were on the soil, apparently 'Taloola'- the neighbors outdoor cat found the catnip and must have sleep in it overnite!! All cats welcomed here :)

I just started feeding the catnip a "BLOOM" fertilizer formula to cause the catnip to start making
some buds and flowers, I read that the flowers are the most potent part. I first became interested
in growing catnip a few years ago when Harley J. Cat(RIP) was still with us and found this article:

http://www.wbryant.com/StellaCat/catnip/howto.htm

I encourage all to try to grow some for their own kitties, part of the fun
-ah-hmm- is letting them help cultivate it :D
