After reading many stories and issues and more stories I begin to wonder:
Knowing that the different generations have slightly different levels of agression:
What generation is everyones cat??

Ziggy - 9th generation
or would that be F9?

Hi There,

our Bengals are about 8 generation. Although our first 2 pet Bengals were F5. The boy was more confident than his sister but both were really loving.

It is interesting knowing if the agression comes from lower generations but I've sometimes had the odd kitten that has been known to bite the owner in an agressive and not playfull way.

The mother to this kitten also used to nip me unexpectedly so I figured that she was passing this bad trait onto her kittens. She wasn't an early generation cat though. I neutered her after her first litter.

The temperaments are definately passed on to the offspring and I have noticed how different in character my kittens vary from litter to litter....some being more stupid and in your face more than others

I know now to only breed with cats with a good nature.

We were once given an adult female Bengal to breed from. She was 3 years old and had been living with someone that bred small dogs. She said that she didn't want to breed Bengals and had just had the 1 litter out of her.
We thought she was adorable and that we couldn't understand how she could part with such a loving cat. She slept on our bed the first couple of nights but on the third night I was just sat on the edge of the bed and as I turned to look at the cat her eyes were like big black circles ( pupils fully dilated ) !
Anyway before I knew what was happening she flew for my face and dug her claws in.... I was terrified and I ran to the door. You'd have thought that the devil had posessed her

My husband Steve thought it was funny
But 2 days later she did the same thing to him and then it wasn't funny :?
I phoned the owner and she then told me that her dogs were terrified of her and that she'd had a previous home before she got her.

Anyway we had 1 litter of kittens out of her and they were very sweet apart from 1 kitten that took to biting me and his owner to be . He soon stopped biting thankfully and turned into a wonderful boy and never bit me or his owner again.

I don't think it's just Bengals that can be aggressive, I think any cat of any breed is capable of it. It's all down to the inherited genes they pick up from parents and granparents.

We haven't brought our bengal home yet, but she is a F7.

I still new to the bengals and the "F" generation factor. What is the difference of F- 4 or greater and SBT? I thought I understood it but now I have my doubts from reading this.

Hi Capp,

F1 means the first mating of the ALC to a domestic cat.
This is the Foundation pairing that produces the first generation known as an F1 foundation cat. Subsequent breeding of the generations into other Bengals or domestics are called F2, F3 and finally the SBT ( F4)

Hope I've helped :D

Our Leo is an F3, and has definite personality differences from our Bella (we're not sure of her generation, but know she's got to be quite a bit farther down the line). Leo is a good size, but still smaller than many other male Bengals of his gen. He's about 15 lbs, and Bella is only 9. His legs, neck, and ribs are thick and strong; Bella is long and slender, and much more delicate. Leo has always been aggressive in his playfulness, which is one reason we later got Bella. He bites very, very hard, even though he's only playing, and sometimes gets rough enough to intimidate Bella. When he gets carried away, she's quick to run and hide (either under the bed, or in her tree). She's wrestled with my hands and arms before, but doesn't bite nearly as hard as he does. His playing is the kind that shreds stuffed animals...LOL So I can only imagine how she feels when he decides to chomp down on her back. I have noticed, too, that when he's "on the hunt" with her, he snorts loudly, as if he were a bull! It's kind of funny, but that's one indication he's gone from playtime to rough-housing. I've gotten that dilated-pupil look from him a few times, when he's stalking... usually right before he's pounced on my head! LOL Thankfully, that hasn't happened in quite a while.

Ohhhhhhhhh, and I just had the funniest laugh... they are in the middle of everything I just mentioned, so I distracted Leo for a moment to give Bella a little reprieve (she's hiding in her tower chamber). Well, as Leo was turned to look at me, his tail was still wagging in her face, near the chamber entrance... it took her all of 5 seconds to snag the opportunity to take a full bite of his tail. HA!!!

She's now hiding under the dining room table, and he's pacing the glass top singing to her to come out from under. LOL They are so comical!
