Hi, just thought i would introduce myself and Bengal Maxi as we have just found the forum.

Maxi is our first cat and first Bengal and OH MY what have we let ourselves in for haha :) He is 1yrs old and was a breeding boy until they realised he hated living outdoors and just wanted to be playing all the time lol. He was also shown last year and got rosettes :) So we ended up buying him instead :) Got him on Sunday so still getting used to his little ways - but he is soooo funny, keeps us laughing all the time. BUT has already broken 1 vase and pooed in the bath  lol... He is on his own during the day but seems ok.

One thing is he meows loudly all the time when he's in a different room to us - is he unhappy? or is he just talking??

We have insured him and he is going to the vets on Sat to get chipped just incase - will this hurt him?

Any tips/hints you can give me to keep him happy?

Thanks
Becky, James & Maxi

Hi, welcome to the forum and to the mad world of being Bengal slaves. It sounds as if you're already learning what special creatures they are.

The meowing loudly is typical of Bengals. They love to communicate so Maxi is probably just telling you what's going on in his life! It can sound as if they're distressed or angry but it's usually just conversation. Some just talk at you, others actually seem to have a 2-way chat :)

Lots of interactive toys are a good idea - when you're around to play with him, then wand toys are great as they help you to bond with him. He'll also need things he can play with while you're out. A cheap option is several cardboard boxes of different sizes - my Bengal and my moggie kittens just love them. They also like the rigid webbing strips that come round big boxes. They chase those round the house for hours.

Do you have any pictures of Maxi?

Hello and welcome :D Maxi is a very handsome boy

Bengals can be incredibly chatty. Mungo usually only shouts when he's hungry (which seems to be most of the time) or when he wants a cuddle. Belle on the other hand never shuts up! We can telll what the different sounds mean now - I'm hungry, play with me, who's a clever girl, guess what I've just done, I've just done something naughty but I look so cute that I'll be forgiven instantly etc etc

I've had moggies for most of my life but nothing quite prepares you for the arrival of a bengal (or two in my case!). Have you thought about a companion to keep him company during the day?

Hiya and welcome to the forum
The answer to two of your queries: microchipping doesnt hurt, we had a kitten done the day we picked her up, then she travelled 2 1/2 hrs by car home. she was a little sick but not much else, if anything he may just be huffy for a couple of hours.

As for the ornaments, pity you never found us before hand, all of us would advice to 'kitten' bengalproof your home, this requires plenty large platstic boxes with lids and just clear your home. As you would with small children.

Maxi has a lovely face, we hope to see more pics.

ps..as for poooooing in the bath, to be honest I would rather them poo in the bath than behind the couch....maybe his litter tray wasnt in reach when he needed to go. Its best even with an adult newbie to have the tray close to them especially near their comfort zone, when they get used to their new environment then you can move the tray to where ever it is going.

we had the litter tray in our living room for a week. Hestia and Zeus's tray is still upstairs after a fortnight, in the spare bedroom
