Hi!

I'm a "soon to be" new Bengal mom :) I'm watching my kitten grow up and will take her home in about 4 weeks.. I'm so exited!! My family has Bengals at their house but this is my first. Its so cool to watch her grow!!

I have one question that hopefully I can get some direction on. I do not want to drift her away from anything she has been accustom to, such as food or litter. However, she uses Pine Pellet litter and I'm not familiar with that type of litter from previous cats. What are your thoughts on it? Since she is growing up on it I shouldn't change it, right? Looking for some feedback on the litter. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the reply! I'm really happy to hear someone else that felt like I do. I read so much on Pine litter and it seems quite messy, I never used in the past. I'm glad to hear your transition was easy and appreciate knowing how you started off too, thank you so much!!!!

My rescue cat had been using that pine litter at the rescue centre. It's without doubt, the most awful stuff to deal with. I changed him to a clumping litter and he was fine.

Welcome to our forum and congrats on your upcoming arrival. All you can is try another type of litter and see if she accepts it. Most cats will with little problem. She probably doesn't enjoy going in the pellets anyway. When a kitten has to use the bathroom, they aren't normally particular. LOL. Just use the same type of litter box she has been using -- open or hooded, whichever that may be.

That being said, your baby is unbelievably gorgeous! The markings are stunning. She is a beauty, that's for sure. Enjoy all the adventures she will bring to your life.

Just noticed in another post you are in South Florida. I lived in Palm Beach County for over 30 years and we currently have a member who lives in Boca Raton.

Thank you all for the insight! You have been so helpful, its a hard decision to make to switch when they are accustom to something but I'm glad to hear the general thoughts are the same on the litter. I will hope for a fast transition in a few weeks! Such great advice and I will keep the box the same and just swap the litter.

Welcome Zoey. Your kitten is beautiful! I especially like the markings on her back. I live in Boca and have two rescue mix breed SLP 2.5 year old females.

I used pine pellet litter for my last cat. She had a hooded box and would go with her front paws outside the box on the floor and her back feet on the edge of the box so she didn't really spend much time in the actual box. Well when I adopted my kittens, I used pine pellets in a hooded box and they didn't go for two days! I called their foster mom and she used an open tray with low sides and Arm & Hammer clumping litter. I ran out and got the litter they were used to and they jumped right in and went! We have stuck with clay litter. They like what they like and don't like change.

I'm trying to move away from Pine but it seems to have worked out for you. My Zoey is being raised on it so I'm scared to shift but I've heard many mixes reviews

I would suggest having two litter boxes, one with pine and the other with something else like a clumping litter that you prefer. Let your kitty decide and give her a few months to decide/ transition. Currently I have a very large open box with World's Best litter and a jumbo hooded box with Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter. They tend to prefer the clay but occasionally use the other box mainly to pee. The main thing they care about is that the boxes are kept clean.

Thats a great idea to put both litter types out. Sounds like a good way to let her choose and make it as smooth as possible. Thank you! I will keep you all posted once she is home and deciding on litter!

I definitely agree with Jill. Since you're really concerned about transitioning, do the two litter box deal (always helps to have an extra for a little kitten who needs a lot of steps to walk 10 feet. Try the pellets and regular litter and see which one she prefers. She may surprise you!!!
