Hi Everyone,

My name is Nicole and this weekend we have finally got our 'purrrrrfect' baby Bengal! We have looked into adding a Bengals to our home for around 2 and a half years now but wanted to make sure the kiddies were old enough to tolerate a scratch or 2!

We welcomed 'Boomer' to our home (name thought of by my 4 year old boy which i love!) he is a snow Bengal and is already so settled and loving 2 days after being here  so excited to enjoy life with Boomer added to our family & love him tons already!

Will be reading up here on the forum for awhile as i'm very interested in other people's journeys

Kids always come up with the best names. Next time I get a cat, I'll ask a 4 year old for a name

Re: scratches, yes, that comes with the territory with bengal kittens. Are you sure you're ready now? Both of my arms were pretty much lined with scratches for the first 6 months. I sometimes had to wear long sleeve shirts just to avoid all the inevitable gawking and questions that come with all the scratches.

The kids have got away lightly so far as Boomer follows me everywhere I go haha! He will engage in play with them if they have a cat toy but otherwise isn't too interested unless they are sat in a warm spot that is appealing to Boomer then he'll sit at the side of them.

I've been making a squeaky noise if he tries to play/scratch/bite my arms and he gets it thankfully.

So far he's everything I'd ever wanted in a Bengal i'm just waiting for the mischief now lol

Heh, well, we'll see. I'm very skeptical, but he could prove me wrong! Let's see what you say 2 months from now!

Hahaha i've already got quite a deep scratch on my finger and loads on my feet so although he gets it that I don't like it and stops from that point it doesn't stop him doing it again 5 minutes later haha!

Haha! Yeah my 12-week old Orion overall is responding to our firm NOs when he is generally bitey, but every now and then he sees blood and does the pounce bite attack to the hand/arm and holds on to do the foot pummel... where even a push back and a NO just sends him back even harder. Those situations get him removed from the area haha. I'm feeling you Brian!

Good luck with the scratchy kitten "spunk" OP!

Diverting his attention with toys can help. Kittens have the sharpest claws. He just looks so sweet!

That's something that I have done ( and sometimes still do ) with Ada and Babbage - they are on the whole very good about not playing with claws out or biting. I try and replicate the kind of whimper that a cat would make when it has been hurt, using it sometimes when they have actually hurt me ( very rare ) or if they are doing something that might hurt. I should have got an Oscar last week when Babbage decided to try and climb up me when I was only wearing a towel - I whimpered, looked down at the floor and limped. He made little "hoo" sounds that he does when he is sorry/regrets doing something and then made a fuss of me.

:-)

Darn, I need to try that with Raiden, although I think he has no feelings except for himself! He wouldn't feel sorry for me! He only cares about going out for his walks. LOL
